I have just received some duplicate Posts to the List and also a Digest that was headed correctly but contained no message. I'll look into this and hope it is just a glitch for now. Meg G.
Thanks, Meg. I've looked for Collards and other cross-references to that marriage, to no avail (but generally I do not have much information on 20th century marriages). I'll keep my eyes peeled. Just found out the Annie CRERAR I've been looking for married Albert COLLARD in Bury St Edmonds, West Suffolk in the Registrar's office on Feb 10, 1943. Her father was James CRERAR, he lived with Rachel COOTE for many years, possibly because they were Roman Catholic and the first wife may have still been alive. I'm guessing on this. At James's death in 1953, there was no mention of Rachel. She had died only 4 months before. Possibility for a grand family rift here, this is a bit out of line for a minor memory lapse for the Informant. They had one son, William CRERAR, who was born and died in 1927. A daughter, Annie CRERAR was born Ednburgh, 1922. James and Rachel didn't marry until 1934 in Edinburgh. If any of these names are in your paperwork, I'd be glad to hear about it.....Meg G.
Hello Meg, thank you so much for founding the list and sharing much information with us (me?). Of course I read your postings from May but as I also read that you had contact with David I knew that you are in good hands - especially as I have no information on your Crerar's. My Crerar branch came from Acharn at Loch Tay and later on lived in Blair Atholl and Dunkeld. My ggggrandfather was the more or less famous John Crerar, head forester of the Duke of Atholl and composer of scottish fiddle music. He was a pupil of Niel Gow. I am interested in all Crerar branches with connection to Loch Tay and Dunkeld. Best wishes from Hamburg, Thomas
List - I realize we are a quiet list, therefore not as likely to be in the address book of a newly Virus-Infected computer, however there has been much recent eMail activity which can imitate legitimate Mailing List Posts or responses to you about a Post. Note they come directly to you, not from any Mailing List. Rootsweb has not sent these and cannot send or receive attachments to/from anyone. If you should receive an unexpected attachment from anyone, whether or not you know them, it is a safe bet to delete it, they can always re-send if it was legitimate. The attachments of late come with litte more in the body of the eMail except the attachment and a subject line which may even have relevant wording. Some may ask you to note the interesting attachment. Most seem to be .pif files that I have received. Please note that it is not allowed for Viruses to be discussed on any Rootsweb Mailing List and I thank you for not doing so on this one. Only the Administrator is allowed to Post on the topic of Viruses. Questions should be directed to me at the return address for this Post or to Rootsweb. See the official Rootsweb HelpDesk site for Advisories on any subject - a down time or system crash, an outage for part of the Mailing Lists, any virus problem causing Listers headaches, or other topic of crisis within Rootsweb can be read at the HelpDesk. Keep this bookmarked if you wish and occasionally read the "Yellow Box" which is the crisis center bulletin board. - Meg Greenwood, your List Lassie http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com
Crerar List - I will be gone a full week, leaving Sunday, June 15. There have been no problems at all with this List needing my attention, however, if something should arise, I'll check mail when I return Saturday. Should anyone be getting bounces with the Nutmeg@bartnet.net addy or the Scotquester@bartnet one, try my bounced-mail mailbox at Scotquester@yahoo.com . - Meg
Crerar List - I Posted this today on the Message Boards for CRERAR. Also responded to a Post by David CRERAR, who should be reading this soon ! I'll include a copy/paste of my Message Board query below. I'll be learning from David, who may be the epicenter of CRERAR research, this is a new surname for me. In the future [give me a few days to accomplish the linkage], all Messages to the CRERAR Board will be forwarded to this List. They will be noted as Message Board Postings, you must use the hyperlink provided to answer, which will take you immediately to the Board to reply. Replying to the Mailing List will only reach them if they happen to be subscribed to this List which isn't likely with only 2 subscribers at this point. Meg Greenwood [List Lassie] / Oklahoma, USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Crerar Message Board Query June 1, 2003 : In searching for Crerars, I totally overlooked the Message Boards ! Greetings from Oklahoma, USA - that is where the Administrator of this extremely new List lives, that's me. The CRERAR List was only begun a week ago, you are one of 2 Listers we now have. This is a surname I am interested in as one person in a Cavan County Ireland COOTE family, Rachel COOTE married James CRERAR in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1834. They did have at least one 'early' child, William CRERAR in 1927, Edinburgh. Rachel died in 1953 with a daughter, Annie COLLARD as a witness. James had been married before, Annie may have been from this first marriage..... Very glad to have you as a new Lister, when you are ready, please Post a brief background on the CRERAR family you are seeking - and even if there is no one here yet with data for you, the Post will be in the List archives forever. Thank you for joining and I hope information will surface on your line. I'll continue to Post any and all data gleaned from my Researcher [in Edinburgh] for this surname M Meg Greenwood / List Lassie [Admin] for CRERAR.
