Greetings everyone, Debbie mentioned her ADKINS, ADKINSON, ATKISSON family last week. I'm looking for relatives of Eliza Adkins of DeKalb County AL and later Blount Co. AL where she married Henry Wadkins (Watkins) in 1861. The following is what I know so far. I have been told that they were both "Indian" by my oldest living family members. I think that Henry was definitely Cherokee but Eliza may have been from another tribe. 1850 United States Federal Census Name: Elizabeth Adkins Age: 6 Estimated Birth Year: 1843 Birth Place: Kentucky Gender: Female Home in 1850 (City,County,State): District 24, De Kalb, Alabama Alabama Marriages, 1809-1920 (Selected Counties) Spouse 1: Henry Wadkins Spouse 2: Elizabeth Adkins Marriage Date: 15 Jul 1861 Marriage Place: Blount Performed By: Minister of Gospel Surety/Perf. Name: John Kykendell OSPage: 31 According to the 1850 US Census in Dekalb Co., AL, Eliza was the daughter of Morris and Martha Adkins both born in KY. Siblings were: Washington age 21, Benjamin age 20, Samuel age 18, Andrew age 16, Catharine age 14, James? age 9, and Nancy age 10/12. They were living next ot William Adkins age 22 and Susannah age 24 along with children Nancy age 2 and Morris age 6/12. I'm hoping that this rings a bell with someone.
