Anita, I have heard of the Ard and the Marshalls but, not the Bull. I would really apreciate any information you have on our familys' history. I am in the process of joining a tribe and could use any info you have. Thanks, Laurie CREEK-SOUTHEAST-D-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > ATTACHMENT part 1 message/rfc822 CREEK-SOUTHEAST-D Digest Volume 04 : Issue 74 Today's Topics: #1 Lett [Sharon Cobb ] #2 Ard, Peacock, Marshall, Lewis, Jon ["Jerry Cordell" #3 Re: [CREEK-SOUTHEAST] Ard, Peacock ["Debbie Woolf" Administrivia: To unsubscribe from CREEK-SOUTHEAST-D, send a message to CREEK-SOUTHEAST-D-request@rootsweb.com that contains in the body of the message the command unsubscribe and no other text. I'm researching like everyone here. I've been told my ggggrandmother was 1. Cherokee 2. Choctaw 3. Creek *sighs* I have no doubt she was native american based on the characteristics most of my aunts and uncles still carry. Problem is she seemed to be very elusive. I have only found her on one census. She was born in April 1849. We've always been told she was born around Tuscaloosa Alabama. But on the one census I found her on; 1900 Lamar County Alabama, it is showing her being born in Mississippi but with both her parents having been born in Alabama. It is very confusing: Her name is Mary Matilda Lett born April 1849 According to a family journal she has at least three children; Eugene Lett Lucy Jane Lett John O. Lett We are not sure if Lett is a maiden name or married name. That we have found she only married once to a man named John Boover in June or July 1886. But in the 1900 census she is still using the name Lett. John O. Lett, later changed his name to Boover believing his father to have been the William Boover Mary Matilda married. The census shows John O. father to have been from New York rather than from Ireland which is where we have been told the Boover man is from. We also "heard" that the children's father was a man named Eugene Coleman Phillips and may have been a plantation owner. Matilda was said to have been a cook on plantations. None of this has been verified. I know there are many Lett's in Monroe/Escambia/Conecuh counties. I also know there are some Lett's on the Dawes Roll as "freeman". I have yet to make any solid connections. I have also heard from another researcher that disappeared that there was a Sandy Lett that was a "chief" born in escambia county alabama that had a child named Mary Matilda Lett as well as a few other children one of which was a Bertha or Beth Lett. I haven't found any information on this. Well I hope it rings a bell for someone. I have heard all my life that our family is from creek decent. My father thinks that it comes from the Ard family. I do know that Marshall/Bull was Indian, but do not know from what tribe or origin. If you have any information leading to my finding this information, I would greatly appreciate this. These people all lived in Dale County Alabama during the 1800's. Most of them came from North Carolina and South Carolina. GA region. My family was in this area and I noticed that name living near them in several counties. Then I began to wonder something: My line: Peter HODO& Susannah ? \ Richard HODO & possible Susanne or Susannah MOSES \ Nathaniel HODO b late 1700's md. Mary HODO b abt 1800 they lived in Houston and Twiggs Co. in 1840 and 50 he died in 1850, she left with young children, later moved to Conecuch Co. ALA as many people of this region did, and also to join her married children there Nathaniel and Mary had a dau., named Nancy ARDnella HODO. Or what looks like that, Ardella, Ordella, ARDella is real close to ARD NELLA, and I thought maybe she was named after Neil Ard. I looked at his will and nothing turned up anything to prove there is a connection. Probably purely speculation but I had to comment to you...and give you the tip about there being alot of ARDs in that region of GA alot of the people from NC came into GA, many seemed to be out of Robeson Co., where a great number of Lumbee lived and many others carry Melungeon names. in cluded might be my ADKISSON family, which appears as ATKINSON, ATKINS, ADKINS and variants of it.
