Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/5R.2ADI/1158.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Anita The Trail of Tears took place in 1838/39, five years AFTER John DOCKERY + Callista WILLIAMS were married April 25 1833 in Tuscaloosa Co AL. John DOCKERY (and family) can be found in Tuscaloosa from the time of their marriage to around 1880. It's not unusual in the 19th century for people to list different places of birth or different dates of birth, or even have a different surname. Put this down to the times they lived in, low level of literacy, ever changing state/county boundaries, constant migration of white settlers and so on. If you have not obtained copies of the GM applications, then I suggest that you do, as they often contain genealogical info not found elsewhere. You might also get a copy of John + Callista's marriage record, which would confirm her identity/parents. Kathy Roberts VA
