Do you descend via the long ago Baldwin Co. Sherriff Moniac? Long ago--SOMEWHERE--I read of an Indian trader (Scot?) named Jacob Moniac. There is a Moniac Castle (winery) in Scotland, but I find no other Scot mention of the name Moniac. By-the-way. I'm told it is not pronounced Mon-eye-ack, but is pronounced Mann-ick? How does your family pronouce it? Did Chief Samuel Moniac, Sr., and his son Pvt. Samuel Moniac, Jr., both die Pass Christian, Miss., at different times. If so, where are they buried there? I filed the paperwork for Maj. David Moniac's memorial stone at Bushnell National Cemetery, Florida; near were he was killed (50 bullets in corps) in the Second Seminole War, Battle of Wahoo Swamp, Florida. On the obverse, the greatful government inscribed Gen. Jesup's words that "David was as brave as any man who has drawn a sword and faced the enemy". David was buried several times; finally alledgedly under one of two unique multi-grave pyramids at St. Augustine, Fla., National Cemetery (very small). But the marker does not menti! on David Individually. A West Point speaker spoke at the memorial stone's unvailing, and a descendant held a Native American-only ceremony. Because of an event in looking for a suitable location for David's memorial, at my Kaskaskia Illini nameing ceremony, I was named Ne-p8-pa-t8-8a or Na-poo-pah-too-wah, or "Walkslowly" in English, meaning "turtle". Mdm. Catherine E8ipakin8ca Colon, baptisted Fort Kaskaskia, Illinois Military District 1698, wife of Canadian voyageur Jean Baptiste Colon dit La Violette, were my ancestors. Both died old up-river Mobile, Ala. The history book writer, Winston de Ville, I believe, descends Colon's second wife? Nawa: Jim Miller, Southport, N.C.
