As word was spreading about the massacre at Fort Mims, people wanted to get out of Fort Pierce to go to Fort Vernon. Peggy Bailey swam across the Alabama River to get a flatboat, returning to Fort Pierce to aid those refugees who couldn't swim. It was stated that David Tate was also at Fort Pierce at the time of the Fort Mims massacre. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
