I am researching Patsy HICKS b. abt. 1790 and her daughter Nancy POWELL b. 1810 GA. They both were either Cherokee or Creek. Nancy's children Marlin and Johnson (Jr) applied to the Dawes as Cherokee, but were denied. There is some kind of connection to a Quinny POWELL of Randolph Co. GA since Nancy named her first son Quinny Powell MATHIS (MATHEWS) and Nancy's husband Johnson MATHEWS had business dealings with this Quinny POWELL but I know nothing more except he was witness in several land transactions. They lived in Houston County GA before moving to Cherokee, Macon Co AL for a short time where son Quinny Powell MATHIS was born (Mar. 1840), then moved on to Pontotoc Co MS (found 1850).
