Okay, I was able to find some more info. I am looking for information on John D. Williams, (an attorney?) in Whigham, GA. Died in 1907. He was my great-great grandfather and I am told he was Creek Indian. If anyone already has any information on him I would love to speak with you about it. Williams is a common name, as is John... but Whigham is a small place so this may be the man who married my 2-great aunt Mary Haire. If so, they had a son named Marvin Williams whose photo I have in my possession and he shows no Creek ancestry that I can see... however, there is oral history of Creek ancestry in the Haire family too. If this is the right guy let me know and we will take it from there. Mary Haire's family was from Gadsden County, Florida, and her parents lived in Gadsden County, Liberty County, and Gadsden County again, in Florida, before moving to Whigham about 1886. Mary might have been born in Gadsden, Liberty... or even Leon County, Florida. Her brother John Levi Hare (sic) was born in Leon County on 17 March 1856. Mary Haire married John Williams in Gadsden County Florida on 19 March 1879. I do not know who Mary's paternal grandparents were. Her maternal grandfather was Levi Butler who appeared on the first Florida census (1830) in Gadsden County. Mary's maternal grandmother was Levi's first wife whose name is unknown to me. However, census records of her children indicate that she was born in Spanish Florida about 1811.
