I have read that Pleasant Porter, chief of the creeks was born at the old home in the Creek Nation back in Alabama about 1818. I see that his father was Benjamin Edward Porter of Norristown, PA; a brother of David Rittenhouse Porter who was governor of Pennsylvania. What town is "the old home in the Creek Nation back in Alabama in 1818"? I am curious if Benjamin Edward Porter and Richard Taliaferro Porter living in Monroeville, Monroe County, Alabama are related. I have so many on both sides that the grandparents told us about, the families all married one into the other family into the other until they all were really one big family. I have Powells, Willis, Vinson, Canady, Hughes, Hunter, Hagans, Satterwhite, Youngblood, and they all go back to one point with the mother and then that is it. Those mothers all seemed to be named Sarah, at least most of them. I did check out Saponitown and at one time it seems like it was a thriving website of information, but not much nowdays. Guess everyone got what they wanted and left. Sometimes, I get bitter and angry at my ancestors for being so secretive but I remember my Grandmother and how she was adamant that we never tell anyone or we would be sent away and this was in the 50's! If only my gr granddad had not buried the Bible, we might at least have a portion of those answers. I just hate not solving a puzzle and I so wanted to be able to get my name. I only just found out this past week that my mother was indeed my mother. I always believed that I was the child of one of my brothers, they were over 20 yrs older than me. They both loved me so much that it made sense to me. In my search for my gr granddaddy's truth, I found someone who knew my family, knew of my gr granddaddy, and was able to tell me about the 'Blackfoot' part, as well as told me that my mother came to her house when she was pregnant with me! Not only that, but I was named for her and her sister, Barbara and Gail. This was something no one had ever told me. I even asked my brother's on their deathbeds to tell me the truth about if I was their child and both of them told me that they wished I had been but I wasn't. Even then, I never believed it. Now, some total stranger has told me that she knew my mother when she was pregnant with me. That is a great closure. She is going to let me come see her and hopefully will remember something in talking to me about my gr granddaddy. More later in this great saga.
