Smith in Calhoun County, Alabama: 1850 Benton Co. Alabama Census, pg 409 Philip J. SMITH, age 58, shoemaker, born SC ? Elizabeth PITTS, 27, F, born in TN Catherine SMITH, 26, F, born in TN Lucinda J. SMITH,20, born in TN, Enoch W. SMITH, 19, farmer, born in TN (note: shown in later census's as William Enoch Smith) Margarett SMITH, 16, born in TN John S. SMITH, 16, farmer, born in TN Harvey PITTS, 6, born in AL William J.P. PITTS, 3, born in AL. ---- If she is the same Elizabeth, she was a sister of my great-great grandmother Margaret C. Smith. Margaret first married Jacob Southerland, then after Jacob died, she remarried to George Washington GAY. I have wondered what happened to Elizabeth, her sister who married Mr. Pitts, how many children Elizabeth had and what happened to those children, if they lived to be grown, etc. Also have not been able to determine when Phillip J. Smith died, where he is buried and who his parents and siblings were. I have a photo of Margaret (sister of Elizabeth) when she was older, with her 2nd husband George Washington Gay. Margaret does seem to have Native American features, from looking at the photograph. Would like to share family information about Margaret's Smith family.
