I have not researched Taylors in depth, so I can't really be of any additional help on Kim's Taylors and Dunns. I know this is not Tim's line and I always appreciate his willingness to help others with their research, but I'd like to get the Sizemore/Bailey thing straight for him: George Washington Taylor did marry Mary Matilda Colbert. Mary Matilda Colbert was the daughter of William Colbert and Celia Sizemore. Celia Sizemore was the daughter of Arthur Sizemore and Mary "Polly" Bailey. Mary "Polly" Bailey's father was Richard Bailey, an English trader, and her mother was Mary, a fullblood Creek of the Wind Clan, in Autosse. We don't know the name of Mary "Polly" Bailey's Indian father. Mary "Polly" Bailey Sizemore's siblings were Capt. Dixon Bailey (who commanded the halfblood regiment at Fort Mims,) James Bailey, Margaret "Peggy" Bailey, and Elizabeth Fletcher. William Sizemore "the Planter" was the son of Mary "Polly" Bailey Sizemore and Arthur Sizemore. He married Lucretia Moniac. Somewhere along the time of the Docket payments, the name "William" Arthur Sizemore started appearing on family sheets of those applying for the payments. I am not saying his full name was not William Arthur Sizemore, but I will say that it never appeared on any of the early records where he is always recorded as simply Arthur Sizemore (except for a couple of Spanish records where it is recorded Arturo.) Regards to all, Evelyn Remember Paton married Mary E. Dunn. Payton's daddy was George Washington Taylor who married Mary Matilda Colbert. I don't have any more on Gorge. But Mary MATILDA Colbert's daddy was William Colbert and her mother was Celia Sizemore. No more on William Colbert. Celia Sizemore's daddy was Arthur Sizemore b. abt 1765 who married Mary Polly Bailey b. abt 1770. No more on Arthur. Mary Polly Bailey's dad was Richard Bailey and mom was Mary Polly Durant of the Wind Clan. Mary Polly was first married to Richard or his name was Dixon Bailey and after his death she married William Sizemore. I believe Mary Polly Durant was the grand daughter of the Chief of the Wind Clan....think that is the way the story goes.
Kim: This is some of my cousin William Timothy's line that I and he asked you to contact us about after I discovered it due to the fact your mother in law asked about Clyde Timothy and Ruby Taylor. As I have it, Jacob Dunn b. 18 Sep 1847 married Amanda M. Everage b Jun 1850. They had a daughter named Mary E. Dunn b abt 1875 d 19May1951. There may have been more siblings, but I only have the daughter listed. This Mary E. Dunn married Paton Taylor b April 1860, m. 21 Jul 1887 d 19 May 1930. Ruby Taylor was born from them Nov 1890, d Apr 1981 and she is buried near Clyde E. Timothy and his wife Ida Dunn Timothy. They also may of had more siblings, pretty sure there was a brother at least.....someone will know that researches this line. Ruby married Oscar Dunn (ALL I have on him) They had Ida Dunn Timothy who married Clyde Edward Timothy, son of my uncle Jessie Martin Timothy brother of my daddy, James Alexander (Alec) Timothy. Jessie Martin Timothy was named after my great great grand daddy Jessie Dees and his son, my great grand daddy (Wm) Martin Dees. That's the run down on the Dunn's and Taylor's that I have for my cousin in that line. Now, I will give you information from Paton Tunsal Taylor back a ways. Remember Paton married Mary E. I hope this gives you or someone ammo to go on, if not...it's all I have on this. There are some on this message board that are in this line and maybe they will respond. If not, there are a couple of pros that does this for a living....God help them! :) TIM TIMOTHY ----- Original Message ----- From: "MS - Everett, Kim" <keverett@ossdms.org> To: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com>; <creek-southeast@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, November 23, 2009 6:02 PM Subject: Re: [CREEK-SOUTHEAST] Creek family tree > Hi, My name is Kim Everett. Kim, This is a free message board for Creek descendants. There are some excellent genealogists, who contribute to the information flowing on the board. Perhaps they can contact you. It is highly unlikely that any Creeks in the 19th century with English names would be full-blooded Creeks. The English last names almost always were the result of marriage between Creeks and either Europeans or Africans. Ethnic mixing began occurring in the early 1500s when the first Spanish landed on the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts. When relations were good between visiting Spanish and host towns, the Spanish would be provided Creek girls for "companionship." When things did not go well, the Spanish just took what they wanted anyway. English and French traders typically married Creek women in order to cement friendly relations with Creek communities. It was not uncommon for European widows to marry Creek men, since they were tall, skilled hunters and better able to provide food for their children. Another big advantage of Creek men was that they bathed every day while European frontiersmen might bath once a month or once a year. African women, who were enslaved married Creek men for the same reason and also hoped that they could eventually buy their children's freedom. Good luck on your search. Richard T.
Hi, My name is Kim Everett. I have been helping my mother in law research her family tree. She is stuck on her great grandmother. Do you take projects for pay? The name of the person is Amanda Dunn. She was married to Jacob Dunn. My mother in law said the family always said she was Creek. They lived in Uriah, Ala. Their daughter married Jacob Taylor. We know he was full Creek. The Fall 2009 issue of the Journal of Genetic Genealogy is now available free online at http://www.jogg.info/52/index.html It has a very interesting article by Roberta Estes entitled Where Have All the Indians Gone .... Although basicaly about the Southeastern tribes along the coast and their very early mixing with Europeans, it has lots of old maps, charts, graphs, and the DNA material is not difficult for most anyone to follow. The Muskogean tribes in the Carolinas & parts of Virginia are included. The main thrust of the article is on the DNA results coming in on the Lumbee Project and the Lost Colony Project. Happy Thanksgiving to all. Marcie

Many villages were destroyed and many went into captivity. Captives were sent as slaves to plantations in the Bahamas,Cuba, and towards S.Carolina and places further north. Many were sent to the New England states as slaves for household work. Most likely many of them were trying to escape slavery and return towards their homeland (difficult for them due to no roads and maps). As slaves, many of them could have met other Creek captives and married and escaped together, some getting lost and then staying in place. Usually they had only one name only and the last name probably came from the family that had them or from someone they knew as a friend (Honoring them). A message that came across the list earlier this evening mentioned Shomo. Could that be a variance of the Hebreic name Shlomo?? I am working on the faint tie between Judiac heritage and native Americans. Not my heritage, but a strong point of interest since first discovering th possible connection. S
My Shomo relatives, who married into the Creeks, were of French descent. Shomo was originally Charmont....from Dechaumontet...then Chaumont...and finally Shomo. Rosannah Weatherford, sister of William "Red Eagle" Weatherford, married Captain Joseph Shomo. I have been told my mother was part Cree, or Creek we think. She was born in 1903, and I can only trace her family back to her father and maybe grandfather. I have found that from a cousin who had done most of the checking. I would love for you to ck on my moms if you have the time and would like to. my moms family was from the Madison, Live Oak, FL area and it looks like they came from Georgia and SC. My moms name was Lula Rodgers, father was James Rodgers, and mother was Dilla Dempsey. Now , from what I see, on the Census records, there was as D Dempsey and a Dilla but it looked like it stated an S in the family or sex line column . not knowing anymore, not sure if I can find anything else. any direction you have please share. thanks Fran Jones ----- Original Message ----- From: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: <CREEK-SOUTHEAST-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, November 22, 2009 5:17 PM Subject: Re: [CREEK-SOUTHEAST] Creek family tree > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: bunniemccosar > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.special.secreeks/246.379/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > I'm a Creek indian researcher: I would be interested in seeing your > family tree if you should desire to share it. > My ancestors were all of the Cornells from the Tuckabatche area (Many). > I have seen records that show William's (Red Eagle)children as having > children also: John David.... Hi, Okay. My grandfather was named JD Byrd (that's his real birth name, just initials) on Sept 16, 1910 in Eutah, AL. He had 17 brother's and sisters. I don't know all their names, but some of the names were LC (twin to my grandfather), John, Bertha, James, William, Luther, Clarance, Elizabeth Matey), and Sylvester. My grandfather's mother was Lula McShan. Her husband was Jimmy Byrd, but his father (and LC's father obviously) was Ataway Colvin. Lula was born in 1879 and died in 1959. Ataway was born in 1880 and died in 1972. Lula's father was Jack McShan. Her mother was Henrietta McCracken. I have seen pictures of Lula. She has very strong Native features (hair, cheekbones, forehead), but I couldn't say what tribe. My grandfather also has strong Native features (same as his mom). I am told that Ataway Colvin was at least part Native, but I havent seen any pictures of him. The notion that they were Creek is just family legend. I don't know where that information came from, but it's always been presented as sketchy, so I am not sure about it. I have been told that Jimmy Byrd was a sharecropper and his father was a slave. I don't have any other information. Thanks! Oh gee! Look what happens when I'm not online for a few weeks!! I am SO excited!!! Thank you so very much for posting this. I will definitely be ordering a copy of this book because my Moniacs are listed prominently. Chapter 9 is devoted to Magnaque & Manac (Moniac) and Chapter 16 is about David Moniac!!! And from what I can tell from looking so far, the book should teach me a lot. Thanks much to the authors (wish I could give them both a big hug)! My 4th great-grandmother was Nahoga Moniac (daughter of William Dixon Moniac & Polly Colbert) who married Jack Ward. David Moniac was her nephew. I have his military records from West Point (ordered them years ago) Can't wait to get my hands on this book!! Would love to be in contact with other descendants of William Dixon Moniac. Take care all!
