    1. Re: [CREEK-SOUTHEAST] QUESTION for Richard ?
    2. Richard, If I ever make it into the Creek Nation.. I'll marry you..just so you can make it too. You have earned the honor. YesterdayI I mailed an article on Osceola to Creek-Southeast. I know William Powell's Death date is wrong and I made a few type errors. I have a new computer and I forget to read before I sent.... That and I am now almost Blind.. I never really paid much attention to Powell as he was not the father of Osceola or Missouri (Miss Sarah) I went by memory and at age 80 , it's not always % accurate . James McQueen was the first white man accepted into the Creek Nation. Here I am 8 generations later trying to do the same thing.. . I have 3 generations... I will be leaving here with all my notes to carry on. A strange thing happened to me recently.. during the night I walked into the bathroom ..an Indian woman was looking at me thru the mirror and said"GOOD MORNING WHITE BIRD", I answered out loud " GOOD MORNING".. It was real. .. I stayed awake for the rest of the night. Ever since I have wondered if that was" my Indian name." It's a name I had never heard before. My Grandmother always said"Don't talk too much, then nobody will really know how stupid you are." I am not in the habit of talking to a mirror. Cause I know I'm not the fairest of them all. What do you think? Are my Oars out of the water? Am I missing a card from a full deck? Betty In a message dated 2/13/10 9:56:10 A.M. Eastern Standard Time, TalliyaSoutheast@aol.com writes: The best people to contact on that question is the Citizenship Department of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Most state-recognized Creek tribes will accept authenticated Creeks as members, but there are many more requirements for a tribe recognized by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. For example, I probably have a lot more Creek ancestry than many Muscogee-Creek citizens, but as far as I can tell, I could never be a Creek citizen myself, because I am not a direct descendant of a name on the Dawes Rolls. I see that his father was Benjamin Edward Porter of Norristown, PA; a brother of David Rittenhouse Porter who was governor of Pennsylvania. I am esp. interested in the response R. E. Woodham gave to perhaps you ?(can't tell) about the UNlikelihood of Cherokees marrying Creeks. His response is dated Nov. 11, 200l. I hope this reaches you (or anyone else who can help) after such a long time. Thank you. 3. With the sassafras.....it is recorded that the Choctaw introduced....I know this is going to shock some of us....file' like in file' gumbo seasoning to the first Europeans.....it's made from sassafras leaves. No, was not the Cajuns....they adopted it from the NA East of the Mississippi. And, some of the natural "drugs" that the ancient one's used are toxic if the wrong amount is used....healing if correct weight with the person's age and health which our ancestors had figured out correctly. They even had birth control herbs that worked....not the counting days as with moon times, etc. We've gone backwards with a lot of thing it seems. 1. [CREEK-SOUTHEAST] Traditional Creek medicines used in contemporary health treatments
    2. Yes, it is true that quite a few herbal medicines traditionally used by the Creeks, are in use today by contemporary medical practitioners. In addition, would you believe . . . that the psychedelic drug, ecstasy, is made from sassafras oil - i.e. grandma's old remedy for many things, sassafras tea? A man involved in healthcare wrote this email to me today, so I thought I would pass it on. Remember that several "modern drugs" did come from Native Americans but of course the synthetic meds did not. Next to proper identification of herbs and other medicinal plants the next obstacle is being sure you come up with a proper metered dosage. This can be tricky because concentrations can differ from one plant to another and can further be affected by a rainy season or drought conditions. When dealing with medicinal plants that are alkaloids it is easy to cause a shift in ph by taking too many are too frequent dosages of alkaloids. Richard T.
