    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: gmwnmd1 Surnames: Weatherford Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.special.secreeks/3068/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am trying to determine when and where Charles Weatherford, b. VA 1752, died. The majority of what I've read states that he is buried in what is today Fort Benning, GA. HOWEVER, I believe that people have mixed up his wife, Sehoy's SECOND husband, John Tate/Tait, with him. Per the Lynn Hastie Thompson book on Red Eagle, p. 22, in 1780 John Tate was with Little Prince and a force of 1,250 warriors, headed for Augusta to aid the Tories, when Tate "became deranged". "The Creeks took him to Cusseta Town, where he soon died." There is a marker there at the entrance of Fort Benning. In my mind, there's no way that Charles just happens to be buried there also. Other sources say that Charles died in AL in about 1811. PLEASE, anyone, let me know what you have on Charles and where he might be buried. His mother was "Mary Half-Blood" from VA, first wife of Martin Weatherford b. Lunenberg,VA 1726. I believe my family comes from Martin's second wife, Isabella's son (Charles' half-brother) Richard, b. 1781. Any information on Richard's children would be most welcome. Thank you. Author: gmwnmd1 Surnames: Bailey, Tate Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.special.secreeks/75.564.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Lynn Hastie Thompson's book on Red Eagle depicts Peggy Bailey as the heroine of Fort Pierce. As word was spreading about the massacre at Fort Mims, people wanted to get out of Fort Pierce to go to Fort Vernon. Peggy Bailey swam across the Alabama River to get a flatboat, returning to Fort Pierce to aid those refugees who couldn't swim. It was stated that David Tate was also at Fort Pierce at the time of the Fort Mims massacre. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
