And Sukey may have had a daughter that married John SELLS who also was part of their ownership. Any information you may have/or will come across re: wills, bills of sales, deeds of gift, etc. wherein slaves are mentioned; I would appreciate a heads up. Preston

    1. [CREEK-SOUTHEAST] Black Creek?
    2. Tia Likely
    3. Greetings! I have just started researching my possible Creek heritage. I am focusing on my great grandfather Albert Lackley/Likely and his ancestors. Albert was a possible mixed blood, Creek & Black. With such a unusual name, in my research I have been able to narrow down the locations of the only non-white Likely's/Lackley to southern Georgia (Dooly,Crisp,Wilcox counties) & Alabama (Conecuh,Escambia). I have found Albert in the 1910 census (50 years old) in Wilcox County GA and have not been able to find him in any census records prior to that. After a few years of searching, I am growing more and more certain that Albert Lackley is an assumed name, but I haven't been able to make much progress and am unable to confirm or deny that. I would appreciate any help or insights. Thanks Tia Likely

I hope to one day learn some of the traditions and the launguage of my people, the Muskogean Creek. 3. I am direct line to Sehoy II and III, 6th & 5th great grandmother, respectively, to me. I am not familiar with DNA familial testing for women though, only male descendants... ----- Original Message ----- From: "myself" <bobandgwen2@comcast.net> To: <CREEK-SOUTHEAST-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 16, 2003 8:42 PM Subject: [CREEK-SOUTHEAST] Fw: DNA DNA Hi Great Creek list, Hope someone can share some light on this. ole Bob --- Is there anyone on this list descended from Sehoy? I'm interested in identifying Native American's using mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) which is passed from a woman to her children. Because everybody gets it from their mother, men have it too but they can't pass it on to their children. Those children always get it from their mother. So that is my problem. I want to find a straight female line going all the way back to a known Creek Indian woman. Does anybody fit that particular genealogy? Sending for Grant Johnston

I'll take a look myself. According to what information I have, Elijah died sometime between the 1860 & 1870 census'. On the 1870 census a daughter, Jane, is listed with Caroline as age 4. This would indicate a birth year of 1865/1866. Possible that Elijah returned home but died soon after the war ended . . .??? I have yet to locate Caroline and family on the 1880 census, but I did discover here death date and burial place. Let me know if you do not have. Are you aware of any descendants of Elijah and Caroline having the condition I described in my initial post? Melissa

Surnames: Horton, Hatfield, McCain, Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/5R.2ADI/865.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I ran accross your post tonight and I feel your pain. I have been researching my greatgrandmother Minnie Elizabeth Horton (Hatfield) (Baldwin). (for 5 years) On her SSI application she lists her father as Frank Horton and her mother Molly McCain. She was born in Indian Territory Claremore Oklahoma in 1888. Supposed to be half Cherokee Indian and Frank and Molly adopted her off the reservation after her parents died. Anyway the reason I am writing is if you will go to Church of the Latter Day Saints web site, LDS They have libraries in most cities with microfilm you can access. My uncle Carl in Salt Lake City Utah went to the vaults and they have the Dawes and Miller Rolls on film. You might be able to find what you need that way. I think the libraries are called family search or something like that If nothing else call your local library and ask them if your town has a branch library of the LDS church. Also I was curious about the census records you found on McCain would you send me in the right direction as I have yet to find McCain on census. Thank you, Sharon email: sharonkayb@msn.com
