Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/4300/5R.2ADI/148.2 Message Board Post: I am also descended from Ransom Cloud through his son, D.M. Cloud. DM also married a Bennett daughter of James Franklin and Missouri. It was Marthe Bennett, born 17 Sept. 1868 and died 28 April 1945. Could this be brothers marrying sisters? D.M. Cloud and his wife Martha lived in Bainbridge. Martha went on to remarry several times and was known as a midwife in the area. She lived on property behind the Mt. Olive Baptist Church that D.M. Cloud was active in (having donated some land to the church). One of my uncles remembers seeing a photo/picture of D.M. Cloud and being told ny Martha (his grandmother) that he was an Indian (I guess the long braids and dark color were a give-away). I also cannot find out where Ransom and Zilpha came from, but it wouldn't surprise me if the age of Zilpha in the 1830 census was a fib (given thast she was the caretaker of 2 younger ones). I'll bet that if the Oliver family line is researched, we might be ablt to find out something about Zilpha. According to records, this much older Mr. Oliver was a farmer with lots of land and many slaves. Oliver was born in S.C. but may have been granted preference in the land lottery in Ga., because of possible Veteran status (from wars of 1812 or Revolution maybe?). There is a Cloud Family Association that may be of help, too. Contact : Linda Boose, 508 Crestwood Dr. Eastland, TX 76448. Please keep in touch. Charlotte
