I am connected via marriage to Barnhill's who came to Greene County, AR via TN via Kentucky via NC and Pennsylvania . . . The link below gives information on this Barnhill family back to the Revolution. http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ar/greene/bios/ridge/v1a_c.txt Other information I found on Caswell Hall Barnhill: http://members.tripod.com/~ardvscv/rgs1655s.html Maybe this will give you a few leads on your Barnhills . . . I have not found that to be a common surname. Good luck! Melissa >>> <jgbarnh@cswnet.com> 01/02/2004 7:10:44 AM >>> This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. If anybody can bridge the gap and help us find the parents of Henry Barnhill (birth date 1854) and George Barnhill (birth date 1860) of Indiana it would be greatly appreciated. I have a Mary Holloway ...61 ...aunt , living in the home of my grt-grt- granpa...Thomas H. Roberts, in 1880...Crenshaw Co., AL. No-one knows who ' Aunt Mary ' is. The URL is :( I couldn't find a short-cut to it ) http://my.pclink.com/~kg0ay/search.htm (k-g-zero-a-y-) When it comes up , go to Big Databases...on the left then Gendex WWW Genealogy Then Gendex WWW genealogical index Then ..Access the Index link Then the Surname index Type Holloway in the first search box and click submit. When that comes up .....it's your choice , from there on. We were looking for Mickleberry Holloway , who lived next to a William Roberts in So. Carolina ,trying to find ' Aunt Mary '. My Roberts' ended up in Covington, Coffee, Geneva Counties. Then on to Pike and Crenshaw after 1870. There are several Holloways listed in Crenshaw and Pike Counties of Alabama, near my Roberts' I found this in "Alabama marriages , 1800-1920 ": Lavis Holloway married a Mary E. Cain, Dec. 19, 1877 in Coffee County , Al. This COULD be my elusive ' Aunt Mary ', since some of the Cains in that area were related to my Roberts', thru the Garrisons . I hope I haven' t confused you too badly.. Good luck. I hope you can find something in that site.

My 2nd great grandfather was Joseph Parrott from NC. He had a son named Daniel Parrott who married Lucinda Gascal in IL or MO. Daniel and Lucinda had two daughters, Lula and Josie Parrott who were quite young when Daniel and Lucinda died. Lula was adopted by a family named Hurford. Josie was taken (by whom?) to Georgia where she married (?) Charles E. Spears in 1886 in Monroe County. She either married him or became pregnant by him. She bore a son named Oscar Spears. She left Charles Spears and returned to Hardin County IL in 1889 and married John Holley. I believe that someone in the Parrott family may have been either Choctaw or Creek. Josie Parrott Spears Holley died in Bridgeport, IL in 1919. Also, my 2nd great grandfather, John Yarbrough, b. ca. 1810 may have been at least part Native American. He married Mary (?) in approximately 1831. Mary may have been Native American as well. Family legend has it that the tribe was Chickasaw, however that may be an error. No evidence has been found to substantiate family legend whatsoever. Any one who has knowledge of Charles E. Spears who married Josie Parrott please contact me by e-mail. I am particularly interested in the Parrott/Spears connection but would gladly appreciate information regarding John Yarbrough and Mary too. Thanks Don

They are from the Samuel Delmar Townsend line, going back to a John Townsend b ca 1820. I can't prove any indian, but suspect it's there, possibly Cherokee or Choctaw. Sorry... But that "history" is completely backwards. The Edict of Nantes was a proclamation of religious toleration issued by Henry III of Navarre, a Protestant who renounced Protestantism and became a Catholic so that he could become King of France (he was known as King Henry IV of France)... but in 1598 he also issued this Edict which allowed toleration of Protestants where they were already established in numbers in France, but did not allow them to prostelyze or move into areas of France that were, or were almost, entirely Catholic. The Edict of Nantes was *not* a persecution of the Hugenots. It was a proclamation of toleration and acceptance of them within limitations and bounds. The problem that led to the Huguenot Exodus was the *REVOCATION* of the Edict of Nantes in 1685 by Henry IV's high-handed grandson, King Louis XIV of France. Richard White Tallahassee, Florida (I am one of many descendants of the Huguenot, Pierre Prevatt, who departed England on Ye Peter and Anthony in 1699 and arrived at Manakintown, Virginia, in 1700. Pierre appears to have been an orphan, and some have it that he married a Manakin/Monacan [Catawba Sioux] woman.) jbalef@aol.com wrote: >Huguenots were FR protestant who went against the Edit of Nantes which forbid any denomination other than Catholic.
