    3. I would like to put my 2 cents in........ I have to agree with the others, I think it is unfair to say the information is not that of genealogy! It is a link to whether or not you have this blood in your veins........the it may not be a paper link or a computer link, it is even better! I am new to this group but I belong to others, and I would like to thank those for the information on the knot........I had not heard of this before. I think there should be a little more openmindness to what should or should not be allowed! It does pertain to genealogy, at least to those of us that are learning as we go! Just my opinion. 3. I am disappointed that you are unwilling to share the other side. How are the non-educated, caring and sensitive people supposed to envelope this info if you never share it with anyone other than your "Tribal Family". I may be your unproven tribal family. I am of mixed-blood. I know there are people out there who would scoff at your info possibly but it is sad that those of us who would NEVER consider scoffing at another view are unable to ever know this information. I say this with the utmost respect to you. 3. Melody, Some of us are illiterate about the stories. We would love to hear them. I am a spiritual person and relate to these stories, although there is a side of me that is very science oriented. I feel that both sides are relevant, and can be looked at. Judy is out hostess, and it's up to her to control the postings. I know that sometimes hosts and hostesses do allow conversations to veer slightly off course but when they speak their minds clearly we must respect that. There was an offer to open another list if we wish it. May I suggest one similar to Dan (who hosts the Cherokee), he offers one called Cherokee-culture and another he calls chats (that is for well being wishes, ect.). Perhaps we can set up a Creek-culture list where people can share their stories, include things they have read and find out how the Creek people would interpret that or explain it. the list would clearly be for cultural, heritage type things, and shouldn't be a general chit chat list. A chit chat list could begin if enough people chose to do that. Anyone can host a list, you simply go to rootsweb and request the list you want to open. Just a thought, hope it's worthwhile to some of you. I have subscribed for years, and most info is of no use to me, but I continue to read every message, just in case. However, I would NEVER have discovered the info on the anatolia knot, etc., if it had not been contained in a message in this list. I shared it with several family members who are researching. I can't agree with you that this does not apply to genealogy and the search for ancestors. Native American Ancestry is hard enough to research, we should have access to as much information as possible. Please reconsider censoring this important information. Thanks, Barbara Griffin

    3. Alot of BRADYs out of East Tennessee (Greene, Cocke counties) prior to 1850 in many cases were listed as mulatto. Where did these mulatto folks come from? If they are listed as mulatto or free person of color then older people (their parents, grandparents) should be out there somewhere if still alive, right? My BRADY line "might" have been slaves of the Cherokee or maybe the Creek or may have been mixed-blood. I don't know. Technically, it could have been any tribe in the area because people of color seemed to migrate rather well which is frustrating for the family genealogist. I know there were VANNs who owned slaves who went by the name of BRADY as well as a Samuel Riley BRADY, a Cherokee land owner who owned slaves and possibly used the name of BRADY. It was more common for a slave to be assimilated into a clan or tribe than into the "white" community so my BRADYs could be mixed Cherokee/Creek and slave. Maybe one day I'll find out. I'd love to add a few more colors to my family rainbow! 3. I have Parkers and Dukes in my family from the Georgia and Carolina areas. Some from North Georgia, and the Parkers are from Thomasville, Georgia. They are Lower Creek, and some of the other Parkers and Dukes are possibly Cherokee or Chickasaw (one of the Parkers from Northwestern Georgia). I have been unable to confirm that so far, though. The Parkers from Thomasville are supposed to be Creek, but they have been recorded as Cherokee sometimes also for some reason. It seems to be hard to find information concerning tribal affiliation in old Georgia records. I'm not sure if that helps, but you should also check the Dawes and Guion Miller rolls, however they do not always have the correct names there and sometimes they're just inaccurate due to many reasons. 2. I appreciated the info that Carolyn Funderburk has put on the list. Might I suggest the remedy I have used in the past: when a subject, though loosely connected to this list is mentioned, perhaps interested parties could contact ONLY the person with the info. I can tell you what a tragedy it would be to limit the info on Creeks that is allowed to be put on the list, for myself, I have personally gotten an untold amount of info on Creeks (ie names, place names, their day to day activities) specifically from Carolyn. Before jumping to hasty decisions, perhaps subscribers and list masters alike should ask themselves are they cutting their noses off to spite their faces. Like Carolyn, I have spent many, many years (31 yrs.) researching the Creeks, primarily focused on Alabama, & I belonging to various groups & societies on the subject. Personally, I feel that no one should be made to appologize for supplying information (pertaining to Creeks) when someone posts a query on the board. Moderate if you must, but don't do it with the stranglehold of a tyrant. I welcome any & all to contact me personally on the subject at dwaddelldober@cs.com. I will answer ALL emails just a fast as I possibly can and look forward to receiving them. 1. [CREEK-SOUTHEAST] Looking for info on great grandmother's family
    2. Hello, I am a new member and just recently started looking into my family's history on my Dad's side. Any info anyone might have would be appreciated. My great Grandma McDowell's maiden name was Glisson. Her father's name was William Glisson, according to my grandmother. They were from Attapulgus and Cairo GA and they were both buried in the burial grounds/cemetery in Cairo. I have been told that they were Creek but supposedly that we also have Seminole and Crow in the family as well. I am looking for any info I can find that can confirm which nation they were with or came from.
