My mother told me years ago that our Indian blood was Creek and on her side of the family. She is the oldest of the10 children of Susie Norris and Elmer Taylor. Elmer was a coal miner in Oakman, Al. near Jasper. That's not far from Birmingport on the Warrior River, parts of which are called the Black Warrior and Black Creek.I am told that we are descendants of Chief Logan, who was thought to be killed in battle but escaped and hid away the rest of his life among the whites. As the story goes, he died peacefully under a tree. Does any of this coincide with any imformation out there?

    3. When I first subscribed to ancestry.com, little did I know that it is the old carrot and stick routine. The basic package does little good, and if you get a little more, you still can't get where you want to go. You have to shell out big bucks. I got out and plan to stay out. I would rather travel to Alabama courthouses and spend more money. At least noone is tryin to rip me off!

    3. I've been away from family research for several years and recently returned to the Rootsweb site. What a shock. I began using Rootsweb when I first started doing family research online back in the mid 1990's. Rootsweb was very different then. It was actually a wonderful site and really was free. From my observations, it seems that Rootsweb now is little more than an advertising gimmick for Ancestry.com with the constant pop-ups, constant pressure to subscribe, etc. I enjoy the mail lists because you can actually communicate with other researchers, but I refuse to be a part of anything else on their site. I don't want to feed into any organization that obsessed with hooking people and using their information for free.

    3. We'll probably be chastised for posting this info here. However, I agree with all that Ancestry.com is a rip off. I was on their site for a year, they invite you to rejoin by phone, then automatically resubscribe you. When you call, one can wait for over 45 minutes, while they hope you will hang up. I refuse to do business with anyone that one can only deal with via telephone. Their prices are high, and when I had their census information I couldn't read the print and it was slow. ----- Original Message ----- From: "William Stribling" <redpath@sowega.net> To: <CREEK-SOUTHEAST-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, February 26, 2005 7:47 PM Subject: [CREEK-SOUTHEAST] Ancestry.com > When I first subscribed to ancestry.com, little did I know that it is the old carrot and stick routine. 2. --WebTV-Mail-20844-1504 Content-Type: Text/Plain; Charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit Hi, I have never posted before...I thought getting into the trees was free on there? I know the info from LDS costs a membership.LDS volunteers are going to courthouses, coping information, then it is no longer on file at out courthouses, it will be on their site,...I know that is true in some counties. I agree, Ancestry.com is not what it used to be. They merged somehow...to pick up things I had placed on the old Message boards at Rootsweb, I have since found the true facts, which makes the old query totally wrong, but I can't find a way to get the wrong info off. I just stay off of all them, now, and write direct on the states digest that I get through Rootsweb mailing lists.. It is free, and you are talking direct to other researchers, on there. I don't have any proof though, only what "family says." I have Ada's parents as William Taylor and Nancy Page, they are listed in the 1850 and 1860 Macon Co., GA census. Didn't know if you have this. I don't have much more. Just wanted to help. My wife comes through James Baton Hattaway's brother William Tolbert Hattaway that married Jane Page. This Jane Page is related somehow to the Nancy Page family. It is uncertain but believed to be through McDaniel Page. Don't have much of proof of anything, but will gladly discuss things and if you happen to find anything on our line, we would appreciate it. Thanks, Michael
