I see.... I will try to delete ALL EXCEPT the e-mail to which I am replying. Having the short- medium- and long-term memory loss---ha, I really dislike receiving an e-mail which pertains to something I might need a "prompter" to understand. Re your cc's ---can't you just use Reply instead of Reply All ? I do wish it were easier, but I do understand where Judy is coming from. Thanks, Tim ! g
Love it ! Thanks, Tim
ha ha sounds like lots of trees ! luvvvv trees ! thx !
For those of us who are technologically unsophisticated---to accomplish what Richard T suggests: type in your Search area the following: Saponi +Cherokee then look for Surnames. Do it EXACTLY as shown--with a Space and a Plus sign NOT followed by a space. One of the Top Five Best Search Tips I ever received ! Another one: to scroll up or down FAST, hit Command key PLUS Scroll Up or Scroll Down. Seriously, keep holding down the Command key while you hit Scroll Up or Scroll Down. Another one: somehow find out where your "Find" option is !! If you're looking at say a Census list (arrrggghhh) for the name "Doe", just type into your Find area "Doe", and it will scross down to that name and HIGHLIGHT it. Then hit it again, and it will scroll down to the NEXT one shown (if any). Happy Hunting ! gmw
Hello, 6341 - I was simply sharing that Hastie book shows Martha Eliza Pollard's parents to be Richard and Charlotte Pollard of Monroe Co., AL.-- which I thought might give you a lead. 6341 - as I said, we agree Re Woods - Thank you--it does look as if the author got Alexander Moniac Sizemore's wife, Mary Ella Weatherford b. 1842-43 who was Alexander McGillivray Weatherford's secondborn, mixed up with his lastborn (of many !!), Mary Hadley Weatherford who she shows as wife of John Marion Woods with child "Marion Jr" Thank you, Evelyn. I do "feel" your thoughtful helpfulness--and not chastisement ! Regards, gmw
Now, ya'll remember. If you find that a Dees/Deas/Dease/Deese finds there way in your life, please let me know. Some of the Boone's did marry the DDDD's.....don't know about the Woods yet. Frank Boone lived next door to my grand daddy and his family...Thomas (Tom) Timothy.....and there were Boone very close to my Great Grand Daddy Martin Dees. I'm sure my great great grand daddy Jessie Dees....saw his spelled Deas....lived amongst them as well...thanks Tim Timothy ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, July 18, 2008 12:06 PM Subject: Re: [CREEK-SOUTHEAST] Marion Woods > Dear Yvonne, > Thanks so much for your contribution! Dear Yvonne, Thanks so much for your contribution! I did not have this source in my records, so I really appreciate you having it and sending it! These two "kids," Marion and George, applied through their mother, Mary Hadley (Weatherford), so I am still left wondering about their father's heritage (John Marion Woods, Sr., b. abt. 1835, SC). We suppose his father was a "Woods," and my family says his mother was a "Boone," but there is no firm information on either. Still, you've added another source to my family tree and I thank you so much! Bonnie

I can finally make a small contribution to the list, I have copies of Marion Woods and his brother George Woods "Eastern Cherokee applications for a share of funds appropriated by the Act of Congress approved June 30, 1906, in accordance with the decrees of the Court of Claims of May 18, 1905 and May 28,1906, in favor of the Eastern Cherokees." It is important to note these documents were accompanied by a disclaimer that hundreds of Creeks applied for a share in this fund, they were led to believe they were entitled to a share in this fund by some attorneys and claims agents. In their sworn affidavits these applicants make no claim to being Cherokee, and clearly indicate they are Creeks. Eastern Cherokee Application - rejected as a Creek Case No. 6339 Application of Marion Woods signed Dec 14th 1906 English name: Marion Woods born in Baldwin County Alabama in 1860 Indian name: Weatherford By what right do you claim to share? I claim Indian blood through my mothers father Alexander McG Weatherford. He (Marion) is married to Mary Boatright (sp) He writes his father was John Woods, and his mother Mary Hadley He list his maternal grandparents Alex Weatherford and Jane Hadley under remarks he writes "My mother was an only child" Name all your brothers and sisters: Mary Woods Ellen Woods Leona Woods Jane Woods George Woods Albert Woods Sidney Woods John Woods - dead Margaret Woods The affidavit is signed by S.?. Weatherford and John D Beck each having known him for 10 years. Application for minor children in 1907 lists his children Hattie Woods 25 yr (my great-grandmother) Sam Woods 22 yr Ellen Woods 21 yr Walter 16 yr Alme? and Perlean (twins) 13 Manford Woods 12 Wiley and Ardell (twins) 6 Charley Woods age not readable His brother George also submitted an application No. 3381 on the 6th on Nov 1906 English Name: George Woods Indian name: Weatherford my family Indian name By what right do you claim a share? " I claim my Indian blood through grand father Weatherford. Fathers name: John Woods Indian name: he had none Mothers name: Mary Woods Indian name: Mary Weatherford Maiden name: Mary Weatherford. Paternal grandfather "John Woods was English" Maternal grandfather "Alex Weatherford" He lists brothers and sisters also He is married to Jennie Franklin, she is about 32 yrs old and is also Creek. His children listed are: George Woods 14 yrs old born 1893 Robert Woods 5 yrs old born 1902 The affidavit is signed be J.Z. Miles and Jane Johnson having known George for 20 years and 25 years respectively. I hope this helps, I have learned so much through this list and so appreciate everyones contributions. Judy, Never mind - ignore my questions in the previous email. The site says it's 96% complete. Evelyn
Judy, Bless you, I did find one that was on another card that I was unaware of and I think it will help lead to a real breakthrough on some of my family. Do you know how far along Footnote is with adding these records or if there is a way to tell whether a particular one has been totally transcribed there yet or not before joining? Thanks! Evelyn S. The Index Campbells Abstract is finished and all online http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/creek/ I even found a couple of Appendix at the end of the book that provided some interesting reading. You might want to check them out also. When you find a name you are interested in, write down the number. In the search enter that number, say it was M135, in the search at the top of the page, enter that number. A page will come up with where that number appears in the index. Use your browsers search to locate the number on the page. If you do that to each of the pages that were listed in the search, you just might get lucky and find several ancestors.
