    1. Re: [CREED] Creed in Paris
    2. thanks - as I understand it Creed Perfumes is well regarded in that field. as a rustic provencial, i have had little contact with them - but well traveled friends have brought back information and samples. I don't suppose anyone over there would claim descent from Samuel Pepy's friend Creed - or the Richard Creed buried inside that big church - i think Westminster Abbey ? Three Leopard's Heads Orr ? the Creed Dna Project is in the begining stages but already has produced some interesting insight into some long standing questions - and, of course, produced new directions for research. the website of the Project is www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/c/creed check on results we hope you will join us in this research - I think we would all be interested in more participation from across the the Atlantic - though I think we have at least one participant from there now. Participants in the Creed Project receive discounts in the testing. If any participants wishes his identity to remain private - that is easily accomodated. If anyone wishes to present a sample from a disinterested family member and to represent that line in the Project - that can also be easily accomodated. Interestingly, the prevalent Haplotypes would seem to indicate that the most of the participating Creeds descend or pass through the British Isles. You may wish to take a look at the National Geographic's Human Genome Project to view the movement of the various haplotypes (mine is I1a some other Creeds are I and R1b1) from human origins in Africa. It is typical to discover in these sorts of projects different family lines and you see them in the Creed Project as well. if you have any problem getting access or any questions - please do not hestitate to ask - i am sure there is someone on this list who can answer Richard Smyrl Creed Kershaw County, South Carolina USA ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, April 29, 2008 7:05 AM Subject: [CREED] Creed in Paris > Hi Richard, > > The Creeds in Paris - the perfume manufacturers. 3. Hi No, I can't claim a relationship to Pepys's friend John Creed of Northampton or his son Richard Creed. I have researched John's family along with his wife, the daughter of Sir G Pickering. John had many children but none that fit with my tree. Still trying to find out where this John Creed came from before he arrived in Northampton. The Wills of this particular line are kept at the Northamption Archives. The Creed arms 3 Leopards heads on a black cheveron, with an ermine background was granted to Sir James Creed, who I believe was born Canterbury, Kent England. I have dates and quite a bit of information on this man but its all are filed away at the moment. He only had daughters and is buried in St Alphages Church, Greenwich London. He doesn't descend from the above John Creed of Northamptonshire but I have been trying to find Sir James Creed and his brother Willam's parents as this "might" hold the key to when my Creeds left England to go to Ireland The timeframe fits I have Francis Creed (now a complete verified line) - possibly a brother of James and William, marrying Elizabeth Blakeney, sister of Lord William Blakeney, a military man, who was also buried in Westminster Abbey. William Blakeney is interesting as his coat of arms is the direct opposite of Sir James Creed. Black background with 3 leopards heads on the background, ermine cheveron. Both these arms were granted around the same time and both are obsolete as no heirs born. I may be trying to read too much intothe similarity and it may just turn out to be they shared the same Arms designer! I have also yet to look for arms for earlier Blakeney family to see if there is any similarities. I have yet to check out Sir James' borther William, who was also an MP I shall be going to Who Do You Think You Are? Exihibition on Saturday and hope to have the opportunity to talk to the representatives from the College of Arms then. Unfortunately its too expensive to ask the College of Arms to do a private search... I believe their fees are c£400 Jenny ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, April 29, 2008 1:12 PM Subject: Re: [CREED] Creed in Paris > thanks - as I understand it Creed Perfumes is well regarded in that field. > > as a rustic provencial, i have had little contact with them - but well > traveled friends have brought back information and samples. > > I don't suppose anyone over there would claim descent from Samuel Pepy's > friend Creed - or the Richard Creed buried inside that big church - i > think > Westminster Abbey ? > > Three Leopard's Heads Orr ? > > > the Creed Dna Project is in the begining stages but already has produced > some interesting insight into some long standing questions - and, of > course, > produced new directions for research. > > the website of the Project is www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/c/creed > > check on results > > we hope you will join us in this research - I think we would all be > interested in more participation from across the the Atlantic - though I > think we have at least one participant from there now. 1. Re: [CREED] Creed in Paris
    2. In the late 60's (the last century) I remember reading in Burke's that it was thought that the Creed name may have originated as a result of something during one Crusade or another - all from my recollection as I have lost those notes and not located the same information in current Burkes - but I think it was Croede and it was thought to link to some location during the Crusades. there were also three distinctly different arms as I recall Have you encountered that information - or is this some misremembered misapprehension on my part? Northampton - isn't that an area in which a number of families have descent from the Danes? By chance, are you related to the Creed Family of Halifax Nova Scotia - the Halifax Citadel - etc.? They have a beautiful website and the Photo of their George Creed bears a remarkable similiarity to some photos of some Creeds in Southern USA thank you Richard Smyrl Creed Kershaw County, SC ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jenny Creed" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, April 29, 2008 9:36 AM Subject: Re: [CREED] Creed in Paris Hi No, I can't claim a relationship to Pepys's friend John Creed of Northampton or his son Richard Creed.
