I have wondered about Cornelius Creed in the past and have letters from Sarah Creed DeCastro from 1979. The earliest record I know for this family is the listing for Cornelius Creed in the 1790 census in Cumberland Co NC p 38. He is single. Possibly the reason he moved eastward to Onslow Co NC (where he is found in the 1800 and 1810 census) is that (Mrs) Mary Carey already had a farm or residence there? I had not noted that the name of Mrs Mary Carey may have been Mary Booth which is mentioned by Sarah Creed Decastro in the 1999 posting. I have noted an Onslow Co NC deed: 17 Aug 1821 William Creed to Edward Ward, 50 Acres, being land that "fell" to Creed on the death of his brother Matthew Carey. I suppose that it might be guessed that Cornelius Creed never actually owned the property previously owned by the husband of Mrs Mary Carey, and maybe Matthew Carey the son of Mary (Booth) Carey had no heirs and left this property to his step-brother William Creed? It certainly seems logical that William Creed was the son of Cornelius Creed, and that he was probably born around 1800. William Creed moved to Fairfield Co SC before 1826 and moved to Kemper Co MS before 1838. (He named his oldest son Cornelius b 1826 SC) William Creed seems to be the only son of Cornelius Creed. Cornelius Creed would have been born about 1765. I guess Cumberland Co isn't too far from Horry Co SC. What is the earliest known Horry Co SC record? Is it possible that there is some sort of Cumberland Co land record that could indicate where Cornelius Creed was from? It is interesting to note that there was a Cornelius Creed in early NY records.
