Lance It looks to me like your John Creed is the son of Hyatt Creed. A John Creed age 27 is living in the household of Hyatt Creed in the 1850 census in NYC. I cannot find these Creeds in the 1860 census, but John Creed and his family are listed next to Hyatt and Catherine Creed in 1870 Brooklyn. Even though the birthplace of the parents of John Creed is listed as PA, Hyatt's birthplace is listed as NY in the 1850 and 1870 census. The PA connection might be a good clue, but I wouldn't regard this 1880 census info as absolute. Hyatt Creed is also listed in the 1840 NYC census. I don't see the name Hyatt Creed popping up on any family databases at RootsWeb of Ancestry.com.
