Hi I recently joined this list after finding one of my CREED's in Missouri in the 1880 census. He was born in England and married a Caroline Witcomb in 1856. He was my great grand uncle and after his marriage there is no further information on him in England. He must have emigrated between 1856 and 1860 as a daughter Elizabeth was born in Illinois c1860 and a son George in 1866 in Nebraska. In the 1880 census he and his family were living in Dale, Acheson, Missouri. He was a farmer. Has anyone got this family in their tree. Regards Keith Wallwork

Hi Keith, Do you have the marriage cert for George and Caroline? here are the reg details if you wish to buy them from the www.gro.gov.uk Name: George Creed Year of Registration: 1856 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar District: Shepton Mallet County: Somerset Volume: 5c Page: 873 costs £7.00 and takes about a week to arrive. The marriage cert will confirm who his parents where. George survived till 1927, if you look at 1900/10/20 census' theys should give an approx emigration date... sorry I don't have a current Ancestry worldwide sub at the moment otherwise I would do a check for you. Hi List about time for an update as several new pieces of information have come along over the last year or so, that have verified all my research back to Francis Creed of Ballygrennan Co Limerick and Elizabeth Blakeney The confirmed line ggranfather) Thomas Creed born 1825 Ballinstona Lim-1905 Bournemouth Eng married Mary Ann Langford of London ggrandfather Charles Creed born 1789 Ballynanty Lim - 1853 Ballinstona Lim married Margaret Bulman of Co Cork gggrandfather Charles Creed born 1721 Ballygrennan Lim - 1814 Ballynanty L:im married Catherine Norris ggggandfather Francis Creed born ? Ballynany - 1794 Bruff Limerick married ? gggggandfather Francis Creed born ? - died abt 1744 Ballynanty Baptism and marriage cert confirms Thomas was the son of Charles Creed and Margaret Bulman I now have extracts from the will of Charles snr and details of the Chancery papers which outline his son was indeed Charles Creed and that he married Catherine Norris I also have a copy of a will by Henry Creed of Ballynany dated 1786, outlining he is the son of Francis Creed snr of Ballygrennan, brother of Francis with nephews William, Charles and Francis (ties in with the Chancery papers). Also from Bethams will Abstracts, Francis Creed snr was father of (at least) Francis, Henry, Robert, William, Edward and Mary. Mary later became Mrs Beevin (Bevan). The direct line were all buried at Uregare apart from Henry Creed and his nephew Francis, who are buried in Leeds No confirmed connection as yet to the line of John Creed of Uregare House, who are also buried in the crypt at Uregare, Co Limerick or Robert's line from Capt William Creed I'm now looking at John Creed, who died in 1712 Uregare, as being the father of Francis and John, possibly............ no nearer finding the English heritage but it must be close as I'm firmly entrenched in military connections now! Jenny Creed message to Robert, I have come across several sightings of the name Spenser in Co Limerick in the right timeframe. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Perry" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, October 12, 2008 1:01 AM Subject: Re: [CREED] CREED Digest, Vol 3, Issue 25 > What???? > At 04:04 PM 10/11/2008 -0400, you wrote: >>Thank you, Lou and Perry. Hello Creeds - This email obviously should not have been sent to the list and it has been taken care of. There is no need to respond. Let me take this opportunity to say all email sent to the Creed List should pertain to Creed genealogical information only. All though I must say this is a great list and this rarely happens. I might take this opportunity to add that the list gets numerous spam emails daily. Yesterday I had twelve at one time. I do try to keep these filtered but should one ever slip, I will catch it sooner or later and will apologize ahead of time. And now for the important info.....I'd love to see some activity on the list. Perhaps we need a roll call or share a Creed brick wall. You never know, one of us might have a clue or the answer to your million dollar question. Thanks Lou, I saw the Hyatt->John Creed connection as well but the parent's Pennsylvania birthplace and the age discrepancy between the John Creed in the later census and the son of Hyatt (7 years) made me think that I had to be wrong. I realize census reports are not always accurate, however, and have found a number of errors even with family members as recent as my grandmother. Thank you for the pointer, I will continue looking at the Hyatt Creed line and see if I can get any further. For some reason the Creed line, the one I care about the most, has been terribly difficult to trace. I have every other major line back to Europe, some to the 1300s. Lance It looks to me like your John Creed is the son of Hyatt Creed. A John Creed age 27 is living in the household of Hyatt Creed in the 1850 census in NYC. I cannot find these Creeds in the 1860 census, but John Creed and his family are listed next to Hyatt and Catherine Creed in 1870 Brooklyn. Even though the birthplace of the parents of John Creed is listed as PA, Hyatt's birthplace is listed as NY in the 1850 and 1870 census. The PA connection might be a good clue, but I wouldn't regard this 1880 census info as absolute. Hyatt Creed is also listed in the 1840 NYC census. I don't see the name Hyatt Creed popping up on any family databases at RootsWeb of Ancestry.com. Hi Sheila, Nice to here from you again! Are you sure you are related to this James Creed esq? He is the brother of Charles Creed who died in 1814, my husband's 3xgr grandfather. The brothers married 2 sisters James married Ann Norris, who this orbit refers and Charles married her sister Catherine Norris. James and Ann had two daughters Elizabeth and Adelaide. There are many references to the Creeds in the Gale Group19th century database. If you look up the suicide of Henry O'Neill White 19th Jan 1860 you will see who Charles Creed is connected to. Also if you do a search in Google Books for William Creed, you will find the Chancery court case over the Will of Charles Creed, unfortunately James had already died by then so no mention of the other brothers or sisters. regards Jenny Creed. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sheila Collins" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, November 23, 2008 9:27 PM Subject: Re: [CREED] Obit > Jenny, > > Could this be the missing link between your Creeds & mine? > > Meadstown Kildorrery sounds like Maidstown....and James Creed is well > sprinkled in my Creeds. > > Regards Sheila Creed Collins > > > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On > Behalf Of Jenny Creed > Sent: 15 March 2008 23:19 > To: [email protected] > Subject: [CREED] Obit > > > Death Notice: > > At Maidstone Co Limerick, Mrs Creed, wife of James Creed Esq > > Jackson's Oxford Journal (Oxford, England), Saturday, October 8, 1803 > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes > in the subject and the body of the message
