I hope you will join us this year as we welcome, Steven Coulter of Des Moines, Iowa. Steven will talk about his nearly half a century of research on the Crecelius family, including the migration to Iowa in the 1850s of David Wilson Crecelius and six of his seven siblings. One brother, George J. Crecelius (1828-1919) was Steven's great-grandfather. Steven will also discuss recent findings of other Crecelius researchers, such as the Latinization of the family name Krekel to Krekelius in the 1500s; and the tragic death of our Grandmother Margarethe Crecelius, who was falsely accused of being a witch, and beheaded in 1629. Steven will highlight the important year 1852---a century and a half ago---when David Wilson Crecelius and two of his siblings abruptly married and left the Scott Township parental home, which had recently been dominated by their new stepmother Nancy. Steven was an editor with Better Homes & Gardens for 20 years. His 4,500-word article "Tracing Your Family Tree" appeared in the June 1977 issue of the magazine. In 1970 he published his research on his father's ancestors. Last year, he published a 30-year update of the Crecelius side. He will have copies of this book available for sale at the reunion. Archie Kintner will also have his plat map of Scott Twp. for sale at the reunion. There will be several family members at the reunion who have done extensive research on the Crecelius family. I am setting the tables up so that those that want to participate in the auction can, and those that don't will have a place to visit, share pictures, reminisce. There is also the possibility of having teeshirts made. If you are interested in this, please let me know. They would have David and Creta's picture in the center with children surrounding. Crecelius Family Reunion. Would not date them so you could wear them again. Costing anywhere from $12 to $15. Email me if you are interested and I will get on it right away. Bring a well-filled basket and drinks for pitch-in meal at 1:p.m. Bring pictures for sharing, a camera and something for an auction or door prize if you would like, not required. And that's not all... On Saturday, July 27th if you would like to pay your respect to our ancestors, we will visit several family cemeteries (Kessner, Cold Friday, Potato Run, New Amsterdam). We will meet at the Idlewild (Entrance to Harrison-Crawford Forestry) at 8:00 in the morning to begin our tour. Lafe Curts will be our guide. If you need directions, please feel free to call Charlotte Davis at (812) 282-6494 or email me at char62753@aol.com or call Alma Harbeson (812) 738-3906. "Remembering the past is a way in which we can affirm our identity and the value of our own life story as we grow older. Claiming our stories with their celebrations and crisis - - can bring a sense of integrity to our later years. The wisdom of older persons needs to be shared in a mentoring role with the next generations. We need to tell our own stories to younger generations so this valued wisdom will not be lost."
