We don't know what Isaac said, only what the census taker wrote down. In the 1850 census, Isaac's birth place is given as Tennessee [Whitley County, p. 357]. Hi, Eleanor. Isaac's tombstone gives his birth date as 30 Mar 1772, not 31 Mar 1772. I've got a photograph of it I'll be pleased to scan and e-mail to you if you'd like it. Need to get in contact with the person who has the documentation for Rudolph being a teacher at the Frederick German Luthern School. Is this school located in the county of Frederick or is there a town named Frederick where he taught? Thanks. Eleanor
I have the birthday of Catharine as 22 March 1769 in Frederick Co. MD. Can anyone give me the documentation for this birthday and birth place? Does anyone know anything more about her? Thanks. Eleanor
Looking for descendants of this couple. I am trying to establish where this marriage might have happened outside of Washington Co. NC/TN. I have found Rudolph on several documents as a witness in Loudon Co. VA. On one of these documents is an Eve Bartles who signs as a witness with Rudolph. There also appears to be a John Bartles/Bertles on a list of tithables ca 1776 in Loudon Co. So, my theory seems to be headed in the right direction. Do any descendants of this couple have more data on them? Thanks. Eleanor
On the 1850 census where did Isaac say that he was born? What did all of his individual living children give as his birth place? Thanks. Eleanor
I have been given the birth date of 31 Mar 1772 for Isaac. Does this come from his tombstone? I have also been given the date 29 Apr 1772 as the date he was christened. Can anyone tell the place, county, and state where Isaac was christened? Thanks. Eleanor

I have been looking for "BENHAM" families. In 1850 census, Crawford, Crawford CO, Indiana, family of Luther Benham age 35: SUsan 31, son George W, son Joseph , dau Letitia, dau Luisa, son Henry b ~1841, dau Manerva. Immediately following this family, is another family, headed by Stewart Benham age 29, wife Mary, son Luther age 1. In 1860 census, Crawford, Crawford Co, Indiana, family of Luther Benham: SUsan, George, JP, Louisa, Stewart b ~1844. Perhaps this is your Stewart Henry Benham, or a relative. I found it intriguing that the names Stewart and Henry were in this family.... Just as an FYI, I found info about a Luther Benham in 1888, 1891, in Marianna, Lee Co, Arkansas. Not sure if this is same person as father in above Luther Benham family, or perhaps son in above Stewart Benham family. Regards, Karen Bradley karebrad@bellsouth.net

I hope you will join us this year as we welcome, Steven Coulter of Des Moines, Iowa. Steven will talk about his nearly half a century of research on the Crecelius family, including the migration to Iowa in the 1850s of David Wilson Crecelius and six of his seven siblings. One brother, George J. Crecelius (1828-1919) was Steven's great-grandfather. Steven will also discuss recent findings of other Crecelius researchers, such as the Latinization of the family name Krekel to Krekelius in the 1500s; and the tragic death of our Grandmother Margarethe Crecelius, who was falsely accused of being a witch, and beheaded in 1629. Steven will highlight the important year 1852---a century and a half ago---when David Wilson Crecelius and two of his siblings abruptly married and left the Scott Township parental home, which had recently been dominated by their new stepmother Nancy. Steven was an editor with Better Homes & Gardens for 20 years. His 4,500-word article "Tracing Your Family Tree" appeared in the June 1977 issue of the magazine. In 1970 he published his research on his father's ancestors. Last year, he published a 30-year update of the Crecelius side. He will have copies of this book available for sale at the reunion. Archie Kintner will also have his plat map of Scott Twp. for sale at the reunion. There will be several family members at the reunion who have done extensive research on the Crecelius family. I am setting the tables up so that those that want to participate in the auction can, and those that don't will have a place to visit, share pictures, reminisce. There is also the possibility of having teeshirts made. If you are interested in this, please let me know. They would have David and Creta's picture in the center with children surrounding. Crecelius Family Reunion. Would not date them so you could wear them again. Costing anywhere from $12 to $15. Email me if you are interested and I will get on it right away. Bring a well-filled basket and drinks for pitch-in meal at 1:p.m. Bring pictures for sharing, a camera and something for an auction or door prize if you would like, not required. And that's not all... On Saturday, July 27th if you would like to pay your respect to our ancestors, we will visit several family cemeteries (Kessner, Cold Friday, Potato Run, New Amsterdam). We will meet at the Idlewild (Entrance to Harrison-Crawford Forestry) at 8:00 in the morning to begin our tour. Lafe Curts will be our guide. If you need directions, please feel free to call Charlotte Davis at (812) 282-6494 or email me at char62753@aol.com or call Alma Harbeson (812) 738-3906. I believe this is the Minnie you are talking about. My grandmother was Minnie, but she was married to Strouse Crecelius. They were cousins. She wrote a letter to Mr. and Mrs. George Goldman. George Goldman's wife is my first cousin, Betty. Several years ago George gave me a copy of a letter she wrote and wanted her cousin Strouse read. She writes that she has lots of Crecelius History. She said Alden is her son in the letter and that he was in Md. She wants to sell the house to my grandfather in the letter before she goes to her sons. She was the wife of Craig Crecelius. She also sent him a copy of the translated Sheep Skin. I was told this was in the hands of a descendant of Meda Crecelius by someone. Charlotte

My aunt lives on the farm where the Cline Cemetary is located. Do you have the picture of Henry Cline and Laura Sharp? The story is that they said they were Deutsch. You know how stories get passed from one generation to the next and pretty soon they were Dutch and my uncle had a really hard time accepting that. I'm not sure he really did, but anyway they were from Germany.
