The younger John would have been only about ten or eleven years old when Mary Ann Tye who married about 1770 to David Wilson was born about 1748. David & Mary's daughter Diana Wilson Crecelius (1792-1848) was my great-great-grandmother. steven coulter, RSVPR@aol.com

John is said in some records to have had two daughters named Mary if this is the correct family. He married 2-3 three times and the first Mary "Polly" married Joseph Pritchard. But there is a Mary born later, probably to his last wife who was said to have married David Wilson. I think you can learn much more about this family if you put in a search for John Tye as there are many pages available re. him and the family. Good luck and I too, would like to know more about this Mary Tye so please let me know if you have found more since you last posted. Thanks, Lois

Recap: Brothers William H and Samuel B Crecelius married sisters Ellen E and Catherine A Forrest [respectively]. Both Ellen and Catherine had been married previously. Ellen to Stewart H Benham and Catherine was divorced from Oliver P Westfall [both c 1868]. In 1870 Meade Co KY census, Ellen is listed with Luther and Susan Benham as a Benham. Catherine "Kate" is enumerated with Oliver P Westfall. Ellen and Catherine are daughters of Thomas Forrest and Ellen COTTER. I just got confirmation of mother Ellen's maiden name from a website that has Indiana marriages before 1850 posted. They married 5/1843 Fort Wayne, Allen Co IN. In 1850 they are listed in the Tippecanoe Co IN census. I received some interesting information from Tippecanoe Co IN stating that Thomas filed for divorce from Ellen in 7/1853. The paperwork I received was inconclusive so I am not sure whether the divorce was granted or not. However, six months later Thomas died and guardianship of the children [Ellen E, Catherine A, James S [my g-gf], and Mary F] was transferred to Ephraim A Greenlee. Well that's all in case some out there did not know about the COTTER maiden name. I found a possible connection to a Thornton Cotter. And possible siblings Elizabeth and Mary. Thanks so much, Sharon Forrest Petrie

Hi again I have in my records that Wm Henry Crecelius's second wife was Ella Forrest whom he married on 1 September 1872 in Meade County, KY, and that he died in 1905. This is from a family tree that I have not validated on each fact, so I would use it as 'suggestions' or clues rather than facts, but at least it points the way for further research. He appears in the Meade County KY censuses through 1900 living with his wife, though, and I have seen those myself. Also, a Wm H Crecelius born in 1838 in Kentucky served with the Union 66th Regiment of the Indiana Infantry Company C, and it might have been him, though it seems that many Crecelius families had a Wm H in them. But if it is, you could get his military service records from the National Archives, that would give you more information about him maybe. There was a Crecelius Family Cemetery there in Paradise Bottom, Battletown, Meade County, KY and I would think that he would have been buried there with the rest of the family, b! ut I have no actual proof of it. That is all I know (and surmise) about him, I think. Good luck in your research! Regards Leslie msleslie@acay.com.au
Can anyone tell me where the reference to the Rockingham Co. VA tax lists are for Rudolph? I have read Fothergill's VA TAX PAYERS, 1782--1787 and Rockingham Co. is not in the book. I have seen several years--1782 and 1783 or 1784--that he was supposed to be listed. Thanks. Eleanor
My records show that this William H Crecelius is in the censuses, as such: a.. Age 30 1870 Meade Co District 2 Cedar Branch living w/brother James and next door to their parents' home; Henry Cline Crecelius and Laura Hines Sharp. Page 12. a.. Age 40 1880 Meade Co District 2 Cedar Branch living w/wife #2. a.. Age 61 1900 census Meade Co ED 91 living w/wife #2. Other records also refer to his Civil War service with the Union forces, though I do not have them at hand to cite. Regards Leslie msleslie@acay.com.au

Sorry for not responding sooner, but life is busy with four teenagers! I already have the info you sent and figured out that Luther had a brother Stewart H as well as a son Stewart H. the one in 1850 is his brother. the son is listed in 1860. Ellen E Forrest m Stewart about 1868 and he died sometime before 1870. Ellen is listed in 1870 as Ellen Benham 26 IN in Luther Benham's household. By process of elimination I concluded that Ellen married Stewart. Luther had two other sons for whom there are valid marriage records, so that left Stewart. Also since there are no other Ellens in the previous censii for Luther; she was a new addition. There is mention in the LDS library of these conclusions as well. Ellen m2) William H Crecelius.
