    1. [CRECELIUS] Relinquishing Admin Duties for Some Mailing Lists
    2. George W. Durman
    3. For those of you who do not subscribe to the GERMANNA_COLONIES Mailing List at Rootsweb, I have relinquished the Admin duties for that List and Marc Wheat, President of the Germanna Foundation, is now the Admin. I haven't explained fully to now why I'm giving up the List, nor why I'm giving up some other Germanna-related Lists. Well, to put it briefly, I have too much on my plate. I've ignored other duties and responsibilities I have in my personal life and need to concentrate on them more. Also, most of this year I have been working with the U.S. Census Bureau, and when doing so, I just didn't have much time to devote to managing the Mailing Lists. And... the Bureau is getting ready to ramp up more phases of the project, which doesn't just involve the actual Census that will start in January, but many other projects as well. I've been a Crew Leader for past projects that involved quality control and accuracy of the counting. Starting this month, I will begin on yet another phase, which will last through February and probably March. Then, once that's completed, start on another phase around the end of April. This goes on through 2010 and into 2011! Work a couple of months, rest a couple of months, then work some more. It's not a full-time job, but after a phase is over I found it took me many weeks to get rested up and be able to concentrate on anything. Anyway, I need to do some traveling with my wife when I'm not working. We've put off having a real vacation for a long time and need to have one before we're too danged old to enjoy it. Plus, we need to travel over the eastern part of the country, doing some research on her family, and possibly to England where her YATES ancestors originated. To that end, here are the Rootsweb Mailing Lists that I would like to turn over to those researching the surnames: CRECELIUS CLAAR (It would be nice if the present Admin for CLORE would take this one.) KLUG* LOTSPEICH* RUPP* I'm keeping the Germanna-related BRILES, BROYLES, WILHITE, and WILHOIT Lists and some of the non-Germanna-related Lists. Some of the later I'm going to give up also. If anyone is interested in assuming Admin duties for the above 5 Germanna-related Lists, please email me privately. Those 5 Lists have very little traffic and are not difficult to manage. The 3 Lists followed by asterisks also have matching Message Boards at Rootsweb/Ancestry and I would prefer that whoever adopts each of them also take over the Boards., I'll still be around on all the Lists and Boards, so don't think I'm gone for good. And, I'll see all of you in July at the Reunion. Sarge (P.S. I'm also sending this to the Germanna-related Lists I'm keeping just so you would know what is going on.)

Author: ygeyoung Surnames: Froman, Crecelius Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.crecelius/62.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Did you ever solve this puzzle? I am a long time Froman researcher and just came across your query, but I can't find an immediate answer to it in my file. Jacob Froman of Crawford Co had a dau named Nancy, born 1808, who married Thomas Robertson in 1829, but I don't see how that would answer this puzzle. What I can't find is a male Froman with a wife named Nancy who could have fathered Margaret in 1824 in Floyd Co Indiana where it says Margaret was born in the 1850 census. 1. [CRECELIUS] GEDCOMS-What You Need To Do
    2. George W. Durman
    3. Ever since I posted that I would accept GEDCOMs (.GED files), I have been inundated with files, the senders asking that their family trees be added to the Germanna Families database at Rootsweb. I have a problem! It is extremely difficult to add other researchers' databases to our main Germanna database if those who send such .GED files haven't made sure that their databases adhere to normal standards for database construction. What I mean is, if you send me a GEDCOM and it is full of errors as far as construction is concerned, it takes me hours, even days, to correct it so that I can add it to the main database. Examples: 1) You enter "places" as: Podunk, VA Podunk, Virginia Podunk, Whatever County, VA Podunk, Whatever County, Virginia Podunk, Whatever Co., VA Podunk, Whatever Co., Virginia 2) You don't enter surnames in your databases in capital letters. It makes it a lot easier to concentrate on surnames if you put them in your database in ALL CAPS. 3) You enter dates such as 3/4/1890. How in the #*^*(* are we to know if that means 03 Apr 1890, or 04 Mar 1890? You are free to use whatever date convention you wish, whether its Day/Month/Year, or Month/Day/Year, just don't use NUMBERS!!!!! The American standard has been to use Month/ Day/Year, while, at the same time, most genealogy researchers (and everyone else in the world) use the Day/Month/Year. Whatever convention you use, don't use a number for the Month!!!!! Dang it, how hard is it to type in 11 Dec 1876, or Dec 11 1876, instead of 11-12-1876, or 12-11-1876? Give us a break! Etc., etc., ad infinitum. Can you see that you must adopt a standard format for entering places and dates in you databases? I really don't care what format you use, but you must use the same format throughout your database!!!!! Let's get it together and use a standardized format for place names! Look at your database. How many different forms of the same place name do you have there? Is there any reason that you can't use ONE standard format for place names? I don't care if you have "just" copied place names from other databases on Ancestry/Rootsweb, when you incorporate them into your database, make adjustments, make corrections, put them right! If you want to enter a person's birth, marriage, or death place as a certain town, look up the county where that town is located and include the COUNTY in the "place", (If you were using a "good" genealogy database program, you would have access to a "Place Finder", which would tell you where any town/city was located. I'm just tired of having to correct place names, where the originators of the databases have used multiple place names, all different (but the same place), and can't seem to use ONE common place name. For Heaven's Sake, why can't you decide one on ONE common place name? Yes, attention to detail is very desirable when entering data into your computer database program. If you're serious in this genealogical study, why can't you be serious in how you enter data into the database? Continuing to be an "Arschloch", I challenge you to "get it right"! Sarge

Author: northwood5190 Surnames: CRECELIUS Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.crecelius/42.4/mb.ashx Message Board Post: WoW! Impressive. Where can I find documentation about Otto's arrival in US? What ship did he come to America on & when? What is his pattern of migration (in which years did he live in which states/counties?) More details please as I'd love to know how we got from Krekel to Crecelius -- so in Germany we were known as Krekel -- but when he came to America- he was entered as "Crecelius". I've just never been able to trace an ancestor that far back & was wondering how you can prove it. My daughter does 4-H genealogy and they ask for documentation, so I'm wondering how to go about getting the documentation for her to put in her book. I'm not doubting you - just wanting to create the paper trail necessary for her project. Thanks! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
