Crawford List: I don't think I can let Marilyn's remark about Matthew Crawford go by without comment. I can't articulate exactly WHAT I felt in reading her response, except to say that it seemed an unfair and unnecessary condemnation. He was branded a thief....so what.....there are much worse deficiencies among man....such as bigotry and the exploitation, abuse and killing of innocent little children for starters. As for Matthew, we don't KNOW what was in the HEART of the young man or the circumstances that led to his incarceration. He died at age 20 in prison....what might he have become with decades to assess and perfect his flaws? Is there character criteria for inclusion in one's genealogy??? Were it so, I suspect that more than a few of us wouldn't make the final cut. To my knowledge I have no connection to Crawfords in Canada.... just a little compassion for a young man named Matthew Crawford, b. 1853, d. 29 May 1873.
