Hello, I'm new to this list and have a question related to a connection between my Holt ancestor and David Crawford (b. 1625, moved to Jamestown, VA in 1643 with father John Crawford). I am in the process of researching my HOLT line which takes me to New Kent Co. c1706. My David HOLT at that time received a patent for 300 acres on Totopotomoys Creek which had been a deed of gift from his grandfather David CRAWFORD in 1686, this would have been shortly after David HOLT was born. It is described in Nugent's "Cavaliers and Pioneers" Vol. III p. 107. I note that a David CRAWFORD did patent 1000 acres on Mattadequn Cr., 8 Oct. 1672, which was in close proximity to the land that was given to David HOLT. David Holt went on to live his entire life in New Kent Co. in the southeastern part of that became Hanover Co. David HOLT grew up on Hog Island Surry Co. but had significant exposure to Jamestown. His father John Holt, a descendant of Randall Holt, in addition to being a large farmer on Hog Island, ran a ferry to Jamestown and they were active in Jamestown affairs. John Holt's birth, while not know exactly, falls in the same time frame as the children of David Crawford mentioned above. In looking over the known daughters of David Crawford it appears that all were married, none to a Holt. My question thus centers around the possibility of David Crawford having an unidentified daughter, or could one of the known daughters have married David Holt? If this David Crawford is not the David who deeds property to his grandson, who might the other David Crawfords be. The common time and place seem to me to point to the wife of John Holt being a daughter of David Crawford (son of John b. 1625). I'll appreciate ideas, evidence, or research suggestions. I have recently tried to correspond with Christopher "Kit" Crawford regarding this issue but my messages to his prodigy email address, shown on his web page, keep bouncing. If anyone has a new address for him I would appreciate it. Bill __________________ Bill Cook (K5LPS) Newburgh, IN 47630
