I just picked up a book at our local county library (Placerville, CA-El Dorado County) entitled: "Cherokee Trail Diaries" - Vol. 1-1849 A new route to the CA gold fields; Vol 2-1850-Another new route to the California gold fields", by Patricia K.A. Fletcher, Dr. Jack Earl Fletcher, Lee Whitley; copyright: Fletcher Family Foundation, 730 Three Crabs Road, Sequim, WA 98382; jpfletcher@olympus.net LOC: 99-00072591; ISBN Hardcover: 0-999670518-1-9; paperback: 00-999670518-0-0. In this book are some never-before printed CRAWFORD diaries of James Sawyer CRAWFORD: apparently printed through permission of Lockerd Family of Arkansas & Oklahoma. There are also letters and reference to Andrew Alexander Crawford & his wife Rachel TINNIN Crawford. Also James Sawyer Crawford's wife Harriet Crawford. One primary source was records searched by curator of Old Greer County Museum of Mangum, OK which resulted in location of the 1849 diary of J.S. Sawyer. I could go on & on about sources, etc. of this book, but if anyone connects with these Crawford families, you should look for this book yourself. Index is not complete at all, so one needs to look through all the footnotes as well. Hope this helps somebody out there! Joanne Joanne A. Smith Mello jomello@innercite.com
