Hi Dick, I have a Robert Crawford that was born in 1800? in Ireland who married a Martha Boyd b. 1805 who said later to come from Co. Cavan, Ireland. They turn up at Port Hope, Canada about 1825 where they are trading in real estate. They had at least 6 children there but decided to move to Owen Sound, Ont., Canada in the 1850's. The first son is also named Robert Crawford b. 1834. Both died in Owen Sound and I have the grave numbers. I have a fairly complete family history in Canada but have had no luck in finding anything in Ireland even though i visited Ireland a couple of times. That is the problem and I wonder if you have any Irish in you - probably going into Scotland? Someone must have a connection or some data about the Irish side. Any suggestion gratefully received! Cheers, Robert T. Crawford
Robert, Our Crawford family were all from Dumfriesshire, between Lockerbie and Annan in Scotland, and came to Pennsylvania via an extended stay in County Antrim, Ulster. Most migrated from the Port O'Larne on the Northeast Coast of Ulster to the United States. There are alot of records on the Crawfords at the Public Records of Northern Ireland (PRONI) in Belfast and you may find the Scotch-Irish List (S-I) helpful. Our "Southern" Crawford line made at least 6 migrations that we know of with the Irvines (House of Drum), McDowells, Wylies, Shaws, Johnstons, etc. starting 1568-1610 from Scotland to Antrim, 1680-1739 from Antrim to Pennsylvania/ Maryland/ Virginia, 1750-1792 from Virginia to the Carolinas, 1805-1820 from the Carolinas to Georgia/ Alabama, 1832-1851 from Georgia/ Alabama to Mississippi, and 1849-1908 from Mississippi to Texas. My family remained in Mississippi. The Crawfords and Boyds were both very prevalent in Counties Antrim and Down, Ulster based on our past research. Good Luck.
