    3. Hello Bob I had my testing done by Family Tree DNA http://www.familytreedna.com/ using the Crawford Surname Project http://www.familytreedna.com/public/crawford/. I do not know the corporate structure of Family Tree DNA so I couldn't say what the relationship with Family Tree Maker might be. The commonality of the names might give you reason to think but I don't know for sure. On the Crawford Project page, you can click on "Request to join this Group" and a form comes up that provides all the prices. A 12 marker test is pretty general but doesn't really tell you much. I think that it is generally accepted that if you want to be able to compare yourself to others, you should get a 37 marker test. A 67 marker test is really more than you need unless you are trying to narrow down a search. They use the same test sample. You pay more for more markers. You don't have to have all the markers checked right away. For a fee you can upgrade your results at a later date. I think it is a little cheaper if you get them all done at one go. Read the section on Privacy to understand who gets to see the results.
