    3. On Sept 9th of 01 I was in the Amherst area. I met some wonderful people there, the people that owned Tusculum at that time were not connected with the Crawford family at all. I made had made a local contact prior to my arrival and called them when I arrived and got the number for the owners of the property. I was extremely polite to them, explained who I was and where I was from (Nevada) and asked permission to go on the property. They hung up on me. The ladies I met at the church yard in Clifford, told me to just go on to the property, which I didn't. (they also invited me to go to Sweet Briar for some reception, which I declined as I was not dressed for such an event!) At least I got to see the home from a distance before it was moved. There is a development off of Fletcher's Level Road called Tusculum. Anyway two days later it was Sept 11, and every thing changed........... I love the area and would love to move back to Virginia again. (I lived in Alexandria in the 70's).
