Some digging: I learned that while we "knew" he disembarked at Philadelphia harbor, records of marriages and births recorded at Christ Church indicate that at least David Jr of the 6 known children did not move from Philadelphia PA to MD until during the Revolution. Merion twp Philadelphia formed 1714(?); Montgomery County PA formed 1784 from part of Philadelphia County. This family moved to Frederick County MD during the Revolution some time between the births of David Jr's sons Thomas CRAWFORD (born 31 Jul 1775 Philadelpia, Merion, PA) and Samuel CRAWFORD (born 25 Jan 1778 New Windsor, Frederick, MD). This information indicates that all 6 children of David Sr were born in Philadelphia, not MD, strongly suggesting that the whole family moved about that time. Not long after, we see that the family begins migrating out further. Much of who moved where when is unclear but by the War of 1812-14 Frederick Co MD is clearing out of Crawfords. Some have tantalizingly moved, or moves are suggested, to OH during or after that war. I've little doubt that some may have moved "south", to VA and the states that mega state was broken up into. Part of why we don't find them in Frederick Co MD much after census has begun is that same effect - some are in Carroll County. Carroll Co MD didn't exist until about 1840 when it was created about half each from Frederick & adjoining Baltimore Co. Some of these Crawfords are found there & some apparently marry at Baltimore. At the time of his death 1785 David Sr's will indicates that his wife was "Mgt" Margaret, I had hoped to learn who the mother of his children were. Repeated online gedcoms show her to have been a Jane Douglas but I haven't yet found any documentation for that. Their last child was born 1740 is as close as I've gotten, so far. That 1785 will names David Sr's children Jonas, John, Thomas, David and Abigail, including deceased James, but fortuitously names James' children. I think I have tracked that James' son David L to Preble Co OH, then Rush Co, IN by 1819. Thanks to this Crawford bunch's Litigous Genes, court records supply additional documents. David L's son David A even sued his own father. More work to do, genealogy research is obsessive! ____________________________________________________________________________________Ready for the edge of your seat?
