    3. Congratulations, Nancy and Nicholas, on finding each other. That is exciting for all of us. I encourage all of you to participate in the Crawford Family Project at Family Tree DNA. By joining the project, you save 1/3 of the cost for a basic 12-marker test. Quoting from the FTDNA site -- "A Surname Project traces members of a family that share a common surname. Since surnames are passed down from father to son like the Y-chromosome, this test is for males taking a Y-DNA test. Females do not carry their father's Y-DNA and acquire a new surname by way of marriage, so the tested individual must be a male that wants to check his direct paternal line (father's father's father's...) with a Y-DNA12, Y-DNA37, or Y-DNA67 marker test. Females who would like to check their direct paternal line can have a male relative with this surname order a Y-DNA test." https://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.aspx?code=A71673&special=True&projecttype=S There are only 97 Crawford Family Project members worldwide at this moment. The branches of the family are still being constructed from the biological evidence. Greater participation would improve the sample and clarify the makeup of the Crawford family. There are numerous Crawford lines, owing in large part to the relatively recent origin of surnames, ca. 1200 A.D., and the fact that many unrelated men became known as Crawfords starting around that time. Conventional genealogy frequently confuses lines -- a preponderance of the evidence does not always provide the correct answer. You can join for the price of a couple of tanks of gas. Please consider it. --John Douglas (Not connected with FTDNA except that I am a member of the Douglas Family Project and I sponsored a male cousin to join the Crawford Family Project.)

    3. I also helped sponsor a male cousin to take another DNA ( Owen). I think it is a very good idea for a male Crawford from each family provide the DNA and other intrested family members aid them in the expense. I would also suggest to take more than a 12 marker, that is not enough. My cousin took a 25 marker ( I think) and even that was not enough, take a 37 if at all possible. Wanda
