Unless something has changed in the recent past that I am unaware of, we American Crawfords are stuck at John Crawford who to the best of our knowledge was born in Scotland c1600 and was killed in Bacon's Rebellion near Jamestown in 1676. He was the father of David Crawford (born c1625) who was the ancestor of several US Crawford lines. I haven't found anyone who has definitive information on John's parentage or where exactly in Scotland he was from. The best theory I have seen is that he was perhaps the same as John Crawford, the Rector of Halden, who was the son of Hew (or Hugh) Crawford of Jordanhill in Renfrewshire. Does any of this sound familiar to you? Is there any chance that you have information on a cadet son named John of one of your Crawford lines emigrating to Virginia in the mid-1600s?
