Of particular interest is the interleaved copy of the History with notes, corrections, and additions. This material provides an important view of the development of this seminal work on the history of the White Mountains. The woodblocks created by Marshall Tidd to illustrate the History are also present. Also included in the collection is the register kept by Crawford and her husband Ethan Allen Crawford for visitors to their hostelry from 1823 to 1835. The later history of the text of Crawford's History can be studied through the correspondence relating to the 1966 and 1978 editions of the book. The collection, in 4 boxes (1.75 linear feet), was the gift of Frederick C. Crawford, the Appalachian Mountain Club, and William C. Wheeler. ____________________________________ BOX 1 1.
