    3. My information, that has been verified - by my grandmother, Rebecca Crawford Hamilton Lokey for one, is that John Crawford and his son came in 1666 from Kilbirnie, on the west coast of Scotland. His son, David, or David's son, I think built Assasquin in New Kent Co. VA (near Mechanicsville, on the Pamunkey River,) then moved to Amherst Co. Va, where he and his wife lived to be 100 and 101. They built Tusculum, from which their numerous children went. (Tusculum has been bought by Sweet Brian College, torn down and stored in the dairy barn at the college, awaiting restoration as a museum of some kind.) It would take me a while, but I have names of the children (one, Marie Antoinette or Maria, married and moved to Sweet Briar Plantation and was the grandmother of Daisy Williams, who died at 16 and in whose memory Sweet Briar plantation was left to become an educational institution for women. I graduated in '58). Can't write more now but there are sites on MyFamily.com or Ancestry.Com where you can get on message boards to see who's looking for whom. Mostly I've found queries about David Crawford. Dixie Jay <[email protected]> wrote: At least some of you can say your Crawfords came from Scotland...mine came to Missouri directly from outerspace. You probably cannot help with this very frustrating question but I will go ahead and ask anyway. Unless something has changed in the recent past that I am unaware of, we American Crawfords are stuck at John Crawford who to the best of our knowledge was born in Scotland c1600 and was killed in Bacon's Rebellion near Jamestown in 1676. He was the father of David Crawford (born c1625) who was the ancestor of several US Crawford lines. I haven't found anyone who has definitive information on John's parentage or where exactly in Scotland he was from. The best theory I have seen is that he was perhaps the same as John Crawford, the Rector of Halden, who was the son of Hew (or Hugh) Crawford of Jordanhill in Renfrewshire. Does any of this sound familiar to you? Is there any chance that you have information on a cadet son named John of one of your Crawford lines emigrating to Virginia in the mid-1600s? > > Thanks > Bill McDonald > Dallas, TX > > -----Original Message----- > From: Barb H [mailto:[email protected]] > Sent: Mon 8/6/2007 5:23 PM > To: [email protected] > Cc: > Subject: [CRAWFORD] SCOTTS CRAWFORDS > > > > (My apologies, list master, for sending my initial email in rich text. 3. I am also descended from David Crawford whose father John was killed in Bacon's Rebellion. I also wish we could get to the family in Scotland.
