Re: CRAWFORD Digest, Vol 2, Issue 82 (Cinda Justice) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Message: 1 Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2007 09:42:24 -0400 From: "Cinda Justice" <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [CRAWFORD] CRAWFORD Digest, Vol 2, Issue 82 To: <[email protected]> Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; reply-type=original I can relate to Patty's experience. My Crawford's came from DE to Ohio in the early 1800's to a tiny place called Shawnee. I assume it was named for the Indian tribe of that area. I knew it was in Perry Co. and that was all. A friend moved near there and told me how to go. I have put it off for several years but this year two "root keepers" and myself went to Shawnee. There are still Crawford's living there too, but my branch came to Pickaway Co. because it was farm land and they were farmers. Shawnee is built on the side of a hill and is like the rest of south eastern OH. As soon as I arrived I knew why they left. The wanted to farm and this area was very hilly. I found land records that show when they bought and came and when they sold and left. A library in New Lexington, Perry County seat, had a wonderful genealogy room that we spent many hours in. I agree with Patty that just visiting the area of where they lived brought insight as to their personalities and desires.
