COLUMBIA, SC - A funeral service for Mr. Rufus Judson Crawford, 78, of Columbia, will be held at 11 o'clock, Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Dr., Columbia, with The Rev. Jeffery T. Scott and Chaplain Roger Rich officiating. Interment will follow at 1 o'clock at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at the funeral home. Mr. Crawford was born on October 29, 1933 in Jackson, TN, a son of the late Rufus Howell Crawford and Lois Glisson Crawford. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and attended University of Tennesse, Carson Newman College, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He performed his clinical pastoral education at Baptist Hospital of Columbia. Rev. Crawford had pastored churches in Knoxville, TN, he was ordained in Dayton, OH, and served churches in Cincinnati, OH. He served as a chaplain at Whitten Village, Midlands Center, and Providence Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Sue Crawford; son, Gary Howell Crawford and his wife, India Puch-Crawford, all from Columbia; daughter, Donna Josey-Crawford and her husband, Eddie of Lugoff, SC; sisters, Jeanne Crawford Cheatham of Spartanburg, SC, Elizabeth Joyce Crawford Cloninger and her husband, Harold David of Kingport, TN; grandchildren Katie Nicole Crawford, Gabriel Van Alexander Crawford, Jodie Noel Crawford, Emma Josey, Jade and Jordan Puch; brother-in-law, Herman Hawkins of Dallas, TX; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
