    3. This site is certainly active again and I would like to throw my ancestor into the ring again. Davids are just as plentiful as James and I seem to be getting nowhere. David was living in New York state (possibly Long Island) and was a royal loyalist soldier in the American Revolution. He and his sons (Jacob, Henry, Caleb, and Joseph) were granted land in Home District, Ontario in 1807 as a soldier and sons of a loyalist. I have records of these land grants which is the only documentation I can find on David. I don't know if he was born in America or immigrated here, and I've found no record of his burial place---probably in Pickering/Whitby area of Durham county, Ontario. My ancestor, Jacob, was born about 1781 in New York, granted land in Whitby, died after 1851 in Bosanquet, Lambton co., Ontario. Thanks for any assistance you can give.

    2. Hi all - I've got a Crawford dead end in the area of Virginia that became West Virginia. Is anyone out there researching in that geographic area? Thanks! Kerry www.kerrygans.com

    2. Hi David! I have very little on my Crawfords. There are two: The first is Barbara J. Crawford. She was born around 1825 in Virginia (likely the part that is now WVA). She married John D. Crookshanks around 1847. They lived in Fayette County, WVA for their adult lives. It is said that Barbara's grandmother was a full blooded Cherokee. They had 10 children: Austin F., Alberta Isabell, Mary Virginia, Euphrates, Amarilla, James William, Martin L., Aiken Snyder, Joseph A., and John Sherman. The second is Octavia Ellen Crawford, born about 1828. She married Henry Hedrick 23 April 1847 in Greenbrier, VA (now WVA). They lived all their adult lives in Greenbrier, as far as I can tell. They had 8 children: Marchal M., Arvison, Louisa Irabien, Liviga Wergman, Ledonah F., Lorena or Serena, Floyd D., and Leroy. Barbara's daughter Mary Virginia married Octavia's son Liviga Wergman. I have often wondered if Barbara and Octavia might have been sisters or cousins, given the proximity of their birth dates and places. If either of them rings a bell, I'd appreciate any info!
