In looking for my Thomas Crawford's father, I came across the Rev. War Pension files of several Crawfords.  I am posting extracts of some below.  There is much more info in the files because the soldier or his widow had to prove his service.   They give their dates of birth, place of birth, describe when and where they served, certain battles they participated in, where they lived, and often times the names of children.  Also, the children sometimes testified to stories their dad told, etc.  There is a wealth of information in these files.   Unfortunately, none of these appear to be mine, but I thought they might help someone. David Crawford SC, File No. W76 Married to Margaret Guthrie on July 8, 1790 in Abbeville SC.  He died May 23, 1815. Children:  Ginnie (not sure of this name), born May 22, 1793; Robert born Feb. 28, 1795; Joseph born Dec. 9, 1797; David born June 12, 1800; and Margaret born July 6, 1804 - died Nov. 24, 1806. John Crawford VA NC, File No. R2472 John was born in Mecklenberg Co. NC or Augusta Co. VA.  He married Sarah (Sally) Newman on Feb. 24, 1797.  John died January 13, 1832 at the age of 91 years.  They had six children, but only three are mentioned:  Nancy R. Crawford Newman, born May 25, 1800; James E. born October 25, 1802; William born Aug. 30, 1807.  John was a member of the Presbyterian church.  He was wounded in the leg at the battle of Cowpens.   He kept his sword to prove his service.  Edmund F. Brown had the sword.  Relationship of Brown not stated.  Sally's sister is Catherine Newman Wallace.  She was married to James Wallace. John Crawford, GA, File ______ John was married to Rebecca Snider.  She died May 25 in 1846 or 1847.  John died October 19, 1836 in Pike or Monroe Co. Georgia.  They had several children: David, born Jan 24 1782; Rhoda born Oct 3 1783; Elizabeth b October 3 1785; William born Jan 17 1788; Susannah born Jan 8 1790; Charles born May 30 1793; Jean born July 3 1795; John born Oct 2 1797; Anderson born Oct 3 1799; Ambros born May 19 1803 and Thomas, no dob, living in Lincoln Co. GA in 1855. John Crawford VA NC TN, File S3226 John was born Oct. 29 1762 in Virginia.  He lived in Surry Co. NC in 1778.  He received his pension in 1833 while living in Rhea Co. TN.  He died Jan 31 1841.  Wife and children not mentioned. Moses Crawford, VA TN GA, File No. W910 - Interesting details Married to Nancy Dorsey, his second wife, in March 1790, Burke Co.  Moses died Dec. 17, 1826 in Bledsoe Co. TN.  Nancy received his pension while living in Hamilton Co. TN. Moses had a son by his first wife, William T. P. Crawford, who was living in DeKalb Co. GA when he testified to his father's service.  William said Moses and Nancy were married when he was very small.  Moses and Nancy had the following children:  Delilah, Betsey, John, Elijah, Elisha and James.  Ages are given in the file.
