MONCKS CORNER, SC - Virginia Black Crawford, 90, of Moncks Corner, SC, a retired teacher at Macedonia Elementary School and co-owner of Crawford's Sales & Service, died Friday afternoon at her residence. Her funeral will be 12:00 Noon Monday, August 29, 2011, in the St. Michael Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in the Thornley Cemetery. The family will receive friends at DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM this Sunday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the St. Michael Lutheran Church, 321 W. Main Street, Moncks Corner, SC 29461. Mrs. Crawford was born August 29, 1920, in Saluda, SC, a daughter of Clarence Benjamin Black and Nannie Shealy Black. She was a graduate of Hollywood High School and received her Bachelor's Degree from Newberry College. Mrs. Crawford was a charter member of St. Michael Lutheran Church and was very instrumental in its' foundation. She was very active in her church in many ways and also served on various committees and taught Sunday school. She was also a member of DAR. Mrs. Crawford was the widow of Sidney Ashley Crawford. Surviving are, a daughter, Catherine C. Scarborough and her husband, Wallace, of Beaufort; two sons, Dr. Michael E. Crawford and his wife, Debra, of Ogden, Utah, and Kelley S. Crawford and his wife, Lisa, of Moncks Corner; two sisters, Mary B. Westmoreland and her husband, Bill, of Lancaster, and Claire B. Wilson and her husband, C.G., of Moncks Corner; six grandchildren, Ashley Crawford, Emily Crawford, Gregory Crawford, Mark Crawford, Rachel Crawford, and Damaris Crawford; and a nephew and several nieces.
