    3. So many of us have a stone wall! Mine is a James Crawford 1756-1836 who died in DeCatur County, Illinois, where he was an early settler after having lived previously in Kentucky territory as a young adult (where his son William E. Crawford was born 1784) and then in St. Francois County Missouri. My James is known to have been a revolutionary war veteran. There is a veterans tombstone placed in Decatur County stating he lived from 1756-1836. There are no pension records. It is my understanding that you had to show financial need to obtain a rev war pension when they became available, and he was a landowner by then (of the pioneering sort) so either he did not have had an interest in the pension opportunity or did not qualify. I can find nothing about his wife, who probably long pre-deceased him, his parents, his birthplace, or his place of enlistment I have been able to rule out a couple of other James Crawfords living in similar times and places (one who was a Presbyterian minister who lived in Kentucky territory during some of the same years as my James, and another who was also a rev. war soldier, but buried in a different county in Illinois, and he did have a pension), but there were so many James Crawfords! My James could have been born on this continent, or not. I have spent quite a bit of time on this and it is my stone wall. Maybe someday something new will come to light. Best of luck to all. 3. Correction: after all I wrote below, I noticed that every reference I made to Illinois (Decatur County, for example) should have been INDIANA! Oh well. Just another example of the fallibility of record-keepers. Everything else is correct, I think. :-) Nancy Crawford On Wed, Oct 26, 2011 at 12:16 PM, Nancy Crawford <crawford.nancyj@gmail.com>wrote: > So many of us have a stone wall!
