Mary, My Zillah Crawford, according to her son, my grandfather, stated she & P.W. Owen were married in what is now Houston TX. bef 10/1837, because P.W. & Zilley ( as she was called) received 1280 acres as a Land Grant from Republic of Texas ( Second Class) and had to be married & arrived TX by Oct 1837. They later were in Walker County and moved on to Limestone Co about 1854-55 where they had property near Personville, I think. P.W. died before 1870 and she died before 1880 ( abt 1877-I think) . Zilley & P.W. had 10 living children so these 10 children are of Crawford blood also. Grandfather said her father's name was John but I am not sure about that. I have also wondered if her name may have been Priscilla & called Zilla as a nick name. Any help appreciated and I will chase down "any likeness" or clues. thanks Wanda
Wanda, do you know what part of Texas she went to? I have Crawfords in Anderson Co., Tx. by 1838. Linda, the one lead I am following is from the "Haywood County Heritage North Carolina" Vol. 1 published 1994. The submitter of the information on the Crawford Family states his sources as from personal knowledge, Family Bible, Courthouse records, Grave markers, newspapers, Henly Crawford, E. G. Crawford and James P Beam. I have a lead on the address of the submitter and plan to write him. I'm hopeful he will have some solid information. Ann
Many times in history a person would name a nephew or relative Jr. instead of his son. This happened many times and is the reason we have such a hard time trying to find the right person. I have visited the new monument also, Ann, and wondered if their grandsons drew the same conclusion that I did; that their son George was a junior, though technically, "George W. II" would indicate that he was not named for his father at all, but for someone else. Have you found anything on any legal document showing the elder George with a middle name or initial? Also, I have searched fairly thoroughly the Crawford lines through George and Sarah's sons, but have done little on some of the daughters' lines. Did Anna by any chance name a son "Valentine" for the man who is alleged by many to have been the father of our George and grandfather of your Anna and my James? Their son, Josiah, was named for Sarah's father. Surely one of the sons carried on the given name of George's father, and I suspect that it was William, but . . Still looking. Hi all, No, Moses Crawford is not a common name, but a relation of mine (a 5th great uncle actually) of that name (born 24th Jan 1715 in Dunfermline) migrated to the USA from Dunfermline in Scotland at about 1748, along with his wife and son David (born 8th Jan 1747 in Dunfermline also). If anybody across the water can plug into this, I can then provide the family tree from there to today in Scotland, via Brighton, India, Annan in Scotland and Kent in England. Any takers? (source; marriage record between these names) Christy PATTON spelled Patent/ Patten etc likely was a farmer, but a DIVORCE notice in the news paper between a Sarah PATTON served Dr. Christy Patton with divorce. SO was Christy Patton a DOCTOR???? Haven't found any record of either Sarah or Christy after this notice. Hope someone is chasing this family in Iowa son; Samuel Albert born late 1830's married in Benton Co. Hi all, I'm looking for my gggrandparents. I have found my ggrandfather and his siblings and on the censuses it says their father was from MD and mother from PA. In the 1900 census it says his parents were from Virginia and Maryland. Where ever they came from I believe they went to Southern Ohio around 1820 +/- 5yrs. My eldest ggreatuncle William D. was born in 1822 and his youngest brother my ggrandfather, Robert M. was born in 1842. According to a biograph on William he was born in Fairfield Co. Ohio. There are 8 siblings that i know of, between William and Robert, Sarah, George, Joshua, Mary, Amos, Rebecca & Isaac (twins), and Nancy. I haven't been able to definitively assertain where any of this family was was born other than in Ohio which is stated in almost every census. If anyone has any information on this line or might be able to steer me in the right direction i will reallly appreciate the info. As an after thought tho, the 1900 census says that williams parents were from Virginia and Maryland, F & M respectively. Thanks for your help. Mary Stockton
