A 67 marker test is really more than you need unless you are trying to narrow down a search. They use the same test sample. You pay more for more markers. You don't have to have all the markers checked right away. For a fee you can upgrade your results at a later date. I think it is a little cheaper if you get them all done at one go. 2. Hi Ida Just to pop in here with my 2 cents. I have my DNA posted and I am in the Ardmillan Crawford line. I have traced my family back to Donegal, Ireland to the late 1700's. These land grants or plantations were given out around a general same time if I am right, some in Ireland and some in the USA. So that is why you see some people around the 1700's getting land in the USA and then Crawfords coming to North America from Ireland where they or friends and relatives got land grants back in the around the1700's. You had the potatoe famine which brought a bunch of Scots- Irish over and there were also smaller migrations patterns here and there. It's a whole area of study. There was the big migration to Pennsylvania and most went south in the US or to Ohio and further west and a smaller amount went North to Canada. I generalized in my post so as not to get in any trouble or mistakes I hope, but it is an interesting area of study, if only we had the time.~~~~~~~~~~~~~Tom In a message dated 5/12/2007 11:31:41 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: Cathy, I am very interested in who your Crawford ancestor was in Rutherford Co. and how the line goes back to Ireland. It appears that the lines we match on DNA, who have traced lines back, have found their line goes to Ireland. I strongly suspect that is where our line originated, or at least came from there, perhaps having gone from Scotland to Ireland at an earlier time. Some who know their line came from Ireland came to the Americas later than mine did, hence is has been difficult to find the connection, as it apparently existed in Ireland. While my line was in the south, later ones seem to have gone north, some as far north as Canada. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks so much for your reply. 2. Hi Bob, I only see one 67 test posted. Is that yours? Where is the match posted? I would really like to get this chart saved so that I could add some color to it to better see the numbers within the group that don't match, and to see if they are the faster changing markers. Highlighting the markers that are different makes it much easier to really see what doesn't match. It is my understanding that if the faster moving markers are the ones that don't match, then the difference isn't that critical. Is this Family Tree part of Family Tree Maker or is it part of the group that I seen a little of on the Crawford List? Can someone view this chart that's not part of the DNA testing? 3. Hi Ida We spoke a number of years ago. Your cousin and I are a genetic distance of 2 on 37 markers. Unfortunately my family appears to come from Ireland to N. America in the mid-1800s and I haven't been able to trace them to the southern U.S. I have found a 67 marker exact match with a Crawford in New Jersey and we are exploring our information to find the connection. It should be within the last couple of hundred years. We think that we have a common gr. gr. gr. grandfather in Ireland. If more people would join the Crawford Y-DNA project, we might break down some of the brick walls that are in our way. It would help everyone. It would also help if Crawford relatives would join the Clan Crawford Association www.clancrawford.org Bob Crawford ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, May 12, 2007 1:32 PM Subject: [CRAWFORD] Crawfords of Rutherford Co., NC >I have received some recent notifications of DNA matches from Family Tree > DNA, however I realized I can't recall having seen any postings from this > list > lately. > > My cousin took the DNA test for our line, and we are part of the Lineage 1 > Group. 2. I haven't taken, nor has anyone else in my family taken the DNA test, but my Crawfords can be traced to Rutherford County...then back to Ireland. Cathy -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Sat, 12 May 2007 1:32 PM Subject: [CRAWFORD] Crawfords of Rutherford Co., NC I have received some recent notifications of DNA matches from Family Tree DNA, however I realized I can't recall having seen any postings from this list lately. My cousin took the DNA test for our line, and we are part of the Lineage 1 Group. I believe our earliest known ancestor is John Crawford of Rutherford Co. NC who received land grants in that county in the late 1700's, post Rev. War. Is there anyone else in the list group who has participated in the DNA testing who is part of Group 1 and can trace their line back to NC, particularly the Rutherford Co. area?
