    3. Sorry Teresa, I'm not familiar with those names, but the names William and Thomas seem to be predominant with this family. 1. [CRAWFORD] Tusculum Plantation Home
    2. Mary L. Thompson
    3. As I am sure many of you will remember, about 5 years ago some descendants of David Crawford of Amherst Co., Va. discovered that the old plantation home, called Tusculum, was about to be torn down so that property owners who were not of the family, could build a new house on the site. Thanks to this list, and the efforts of Mark who built a wonderful web site for the project, an appeal was sent out to try to save the house. Mamy of you responded, with petitions, letters and just word of mouth. This was a long, long journey. I am happy to report to you that the house was saved, with the assistance of Katheen Kilpatrick, who is associated with the Virginia Historical Commission. She was able to save the house, and it has been disassembled and moved to the campus of Sweet Briar College where it will be reconstructed. The site of Sweet Briar College was given by Indiana Flecther, a Crawford descendant. I received the following invitation, and have been asked to extend it to all of you from the college: "Dear Crawford Friends, I am happy to let you know that Tusculum, the historic home of the Crawford family of Amherst County, will be celebrated as the centerpiece of Sweet Briar College's Homecoming weekend on September 22, 2007. As some of you may know, the house was dismantled last summer and moved to storage on our campus. Plans are afoot for the establishment of the Tusculum Institute, dedicated to preservation issues, which will be housed there once the house in reconstructed. For full details on next month'd program, which will include distinguished speakers such as Kathleen Kilpatrick, director of Virginia's Department of Historic Resources, and Travis McDonald, director of restoration at Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest, please follow this link to download our Homecoming brochure, which features Tusculum on the cover. http://www.sbc.edu/alumnae/homecoming.html The homecoming brochure is on the righthand side, and the full program is on page 11. I am also happy to send hard copies to anyone who cannot download it I hope that you are as excited as we are about this marvelous endeavor, and that you will pass along the information to any family members who may not receive this email. In addition, I would like to invite you to be our guests at a luncheon with members of the APVA, which held Tusculum in trust during the transfer period, prior to the afternoon events. Thank you again for your interest, and I hope to welcome you to Sweet Briar on September 22 ! All best, Christian Carr Director, Sweet Briar Museum Assistant Professor of Arts Management PO Box 144, Sweet Briar, VA. 24595 Phone: 434.381.6246 Fax: 434.381.6132 [email protected] " Isn't it wonderful to know that a group can do something if they apply themselves and do not give up!! In the beganning this looked like almost an impossible mission, and look at it now!!! Thanks so much, Mary Thompsom

    3. Now that this list is very active, it might be the right time to post my Crawford ancestors once again in hopes I make a connection. I started my searches nine years ago in hopes if finding out what happened to my paternal grandfather. Now with over 1,500 ancestors on my family tree (of other surnames) he remains a mystery. This is what I know, or think I know........ by generation. 1. Unknown Crawford, born in N.Y, year unknown 2. T. O. Crawford, b. about 1842 in Illinois married Sara (unknown, possibly Luce), who was born about 1856 in Mississippi 3. Their children----- *William Adolphus Crawford, born 1873 in Texas Charles Crawford, b. abt. 1876 in Texas Mary Crawford, b. ab. 1878 Thomas (O'Neal) Crawford, b. April, 1880 in Texas ----this is my grandfather who left his family in 1920, supposedly headed to Oklahoma Robert Crawford, b. August 1887 * William Adolphus Crawford and wife, Arie Octavia Boman (b. 1872 in Kentucky), moved to the Tulsa, Oklahoma area (Sperry, then Oklahoma City) in 1915, according to their obituaries that I obtained through a paid researcher. I found a Charles Crawford in the same area that's the right age to be the brother. 4. My dad, Carl O'Neal Crawford, b. 1907 in Texas. As you can see, I haven't been able to go further back in time. If any of this is familiar to anyone, I would LOVE to hear from you! Patricia (Crawford) McKnight A family tree can wither if no one tends it's roots.......... ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, August 18, 2007 7:37 PM Subject: Re: [CRAWFORD] Share the ancestry of the Crawfords from Georgia > Deborah, > > I'm sorry to say I cannot place any of your names in my Crawford family, > and > thus have no photos. 2. Deborah, I'm sorry to say I cannot place any of your names in my Crawford family, and thus have no photos. My Crawfords did live in Union and then Fannin Co. GA as early as 1850, but my particular line left, going to AL, then TN and later to TX and OK. I've not found many photos of my line either. I have none for my Crawford great grandfather, only for one of his daughters and quite a few for my grandfather. Do you have a male surnamed Crawford, such as a brother, father, uncle, cousin who has participated in the Crawford DNA study or who could participate. 3. Hello Deborah, My name is Sue Sherman and I live near Houston, Tx. My father was a Crawford. I thought it is interesting that you have a Palmer in your family as well. My mother's family also includes the Palmer name. That side is traced back to England and has some very interesting members. One of my cousins traced our Crawfords back to a town in Scotland called Crawford of all things. My cousin lived in New York and died unexpectedly and we don't know what happened to his research. I have started on it but haven't gotten very far yet. Who knows, we may be related two different ways! 3. Michelle: I'm not sure if this web site is the best place to send a large batch of genealogy info, so if anyone has a better idea, I'll follow it in the future. As I mentioned in an earlier email, My GGGrandfather Josiah Wilson Crawford and his wife Lydia Sears, had seven children. Henry P., John B. Josiah W., Joseph A., Elizabeth, Harriet, and Sylvia. My direct lineage is from my GGrandfather, Henry P., who, with his wife Ruth Lane had eight children. Henry was born in Bond County, IL 8/22/1822, Died 2/15/1879 in Mason County, IL. He was a doctor and served in the Civil War. Ruth's father was a colonel in the War of 1812 and served under General Jackson. Ruth was born in Tenn., 1827 and died 2/1/1875. The children of Henry P. and Ruth were: Josiah Washington, B, 1/5/1850 in Canton, IL. D3/22/1916, Thayer County, Neb. Cicero A. , B. 12/31/1853 D. (?) Philander T. B. 6/3/1856 D. 3/1/1908 Milissa D. B. 4/12/1860 Rachel B. 1849 D. 2/3/1851 Jordan R. D. 8/22/1853 at 1 year, 9 mo., 1 day Eliza L. Rosetta B. 1869 D. 4/19/1871 On December 24, 1876, Henry married Catharine Atwater in Mason County, IL Josiah Washington, my grand father, and his wife Mary Killius, had five children. Mary was born Mason County, IL 3/18/1854 and died 2/29/1929 in Belvedere, Nebraska. They were married 9/30/1873 in Kilborn, IL. Their children were: Fredrick Washington, B. 6/15/1876 D. 5/27/1935 Bertha D. (Kelly) Cora D. (Morehouse) B. 8/21/1877 D. 4/1/1952 Henry Charles D. 7/18/1875 at 10 months Lula May D. 8/31/75 at 2-1/2 months. The family of Fredrick W. Crawford is quite large. Additional information is available upon request. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michelle Johnson" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, August 16, 2007 1:37 PM Subject: Re: [CRAWFORD] (no subject) > Could you please send to me?
