- This mail is in HTML. Some elements may be ommited in plain text. - Just hoping this email reaches you well, Am sorry for this emergency and for not informing you about our urgent trip to (Paris) France, but we just have to let you know our present predicament. Everything was fine until we were attacked on our way back to the hotel, we lost money, bank cards, mobilephone and our bags in the course of this attack. We immediately contacted our bank in other to block our cards and also made a report at the nearest police station. I'm physically ok and fine. We are urgently in need of some money to pay our hotel bills and flight ticket home, will pay back as soon as I get back home. I'll appreciate whatever you can assist me with, let me know if you can help. Thanks Debbie
No sorry badly worded - I just wondered since nothing worked whether this was a clever scam. After all it wouldn't beg too difficult with all the information on the web to set up a site and collect dues!! But then again it looks sort of legit just not sure why I paid any money without more thought! Re the new Clan Crawford Association: Julia: I will try to get your comments to the people who can update the site, but note that some info from the old website was ported over to the new site without checking that each link was still operational. I know they put in TONS of info to check that the historical info was accurate, but not every page has been carefully double-checked yet. The site is new, having been released publicly about a month or so ago. They've been working on it since the old site was pulled by its owner in late 2015. There are definitely still things under development now and for some time yet, but they felt it was important to have the website operational and public even as some pages were still being updated. Gail: It is not a scam, it is the brand new website for the Clan Crawford Association. If you paid the membership fee then you should get a login which allows you to get to various resources in the members-only areas (the archives in particular). Registration involves two people in the CCA, so it is not instantaneous, unfortunately (yet), but you will get the login info soon if you have not yet. David: At the moment the by-laws and newsletter are in the members-only area. As I understand it, they are moving the by-laws into the public area, but I am not sure how long that'll take (soon, I imagine). I am not sure about the newsletter, offhand. However, there are problems with a batch of the links. Maybe you can pass along a request to check the links. I noticed these problems tonight, though there may be more: > > > * "ANCESTORS at the PBS Web site" and "PBS ANCESTORS companion Web site" both returned this result --- > > "Oops! The old website was closed by the administrator. The association had to do some restructuring concerning one officer and his controlling issues. So a new association evolved with more open by-laws and more membership input. A new website was developed and is now line. It is more welcoming, more information, easier to navigate and more user friendly and providing more content. Go to www.clancrawfordassoc.org. Fred Crawford, Treasurer & Board of Directors. The person from whose computer the messages came from has a zombie bug. (It was sent out to a batch of addresses as you can see from the original message.) Their computer sends out messages to the people in their address list without the owner's knowledge, like a zombie. If the recipient is fooled enough to click the link, they will become infected, too, and begin passing messages. A few months ago, when this type of "click the new message" scam started coming around, labeled as a faux Yahoo post, a bunch of my friends fell for it, including my husband. I had him go to BleepingComputer to find out how to get rid of the thing. There are other sites that will help you, too. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/ I don't want to pat myself on the back, but since I was cyber-stalked a few years back, I have become very skeptical of messages. More skepticism will help people keep their machines cleaner. I changed the link address when I replied, so you'll have to go back to the original message if you really feel like you want to click it. However, you've been warned! .^_^. =========================================================================================== On Tue, 5/17/16, Nancy Crawford <crawford.nancyj@gmail.com> wrote: What is a zombie link? I will add my 2 cents. I clicked on this message the other day and immediately, realized my mistake. As soon as you can, click on your control panel, choose recovery and once there, choose system restore. It will only put your computer the way it was 2-3 days earlier (your choice), without losing anything like email or documents. If you installed any programs in those couple of days, they will have to be reinstalled. Easy fix. Good luck. ----- Original Message ----- From: juliasgenes via <crawford@rootsweb.com> Reply-To: juliasgenes <juliasgenes@yahoo.com>, <crawford@rootsweb.com> To: Nancy Crawford <crawford.nancyj@gmail.com>, <crawford@rootsweb.com> Sent: 5/17/2016 11:48:11 PM Subject: Re: [CRAWFORD] Fw: new message - ZOMBIE LINK The person from whose computer the messages came from has a zombie bug. My mistake. The hero/patriot was Elijah's father, Samuel. He was killed in battle in Tuckahoe, NY, in 1777, and there is a commemorative plaque in the downtown area.
