Dianna, Thank you for your reply.I am doing this research for my sons,David and Timothy. Crawford is their maternal ancestry. Could our James have been a James Jr. ? We know very little about their heritage, except for the names ,dates and places I posted. The Crawfords lived on a farm about a mile north of Fairview Cemetery. Their land has remained in the family for 5 generations now. Did any other of the names posted ring a bell,or connect with your line? If so, would you please send us whatever you can? I know my sons would love to know more.I will fill in the rest of the James Crawford line for you. David Lester Blevins b.1983 Timothy Lee Blevins b.1985 ( both born in Cinti. Oh.) I ran across this some time ago at the Library. I am sorry that I did not list the place that I found it. The Info is as follows" Lawrence County, 1830-1838 ( I assume it is Lawrence County, Arkansas) Crawford, Moses, LA, Milly Crawford, Apr. 1834, La, Coleby Crawford, Samuel Miller, Oct 1835, (Milly Crawford having recently died). Partition petition 1836: Coleby Crawford, admr, vs Salathial M Crawford, Olly Crawford, Vineyare Crawford & Salathiel M Crawford as gdn of Russell Crawford. Heirs 1837 : (decedent left no widow, according to petition) Coleby, Salathiel M, Olla, Viniana, Russell Crawford, over 14 heir ( Salathiel M Crawford, 1835) Not sure if this will help any one or not but good hunting anyway. I am at a standstill Max.

TO ALL CRAWFORD LIST MEMBERS: Please forgive me for this long E-Mail, but I know you can help. Let me introduce myself my name is Michael Law and I am new this list. I have done extensive research on my paternal surname; however, most recently I just discovered that the man listed on my birth certificate Tallie W. Law, Jr was not my father. I was always told that he was sent to prison while my mother was 8 months pregnant. It was not until I researched the Ohio Penn Prison Roster did I discover that he was in prison before I was conceived and not released until after I was born. My mother and him never re-united again. I finally, had the courage to ask my mother who was my father. She told me today and said she was greatly relieved to divulge this secret she kept for almost 42 years. I was born July 8, 1957 in Columbus, Ohio. I would have been conceived probably somewhere around October, November, or December 1956. My mother was about 26 years old in 1957. She said my father was SAM CRAWFORD. Sam was about 15 years her senior thus he would have probably been born around 1916??? Sam was living with his sister, brother-in-law, and nephew on Deckenball Street in Columbus, Ohio. My mother can't remember Sam's sister's first name, but belive her married name was ARNOLD. Sam was a bartender at the Neil House in Columbus, Ohio, again in 1956. The last time my mother seen Sam was when I was about 3 years old. I would love to "hook-up" with anyone who has information on this SAM CRAWFORD. If you have information or know someone who might I would be internally indebted.... Again some basic facts Father's Name: Sam Crawford Sam's Sister's Married Name: ARNOLD Time: 1956-1957 Location: Columbus, OH Employed @ Neil House as a bartender Lived on Deckenball Street May have been born in 1916. Please E-Mail me... Mike Law
In the will of Capt. David Crawford (wife: Elizabeth Smith) it names "Martins Children". Can anyone tell me who these children were, and what happened to Martin ? Thank you so much for any help. Mary

Story told to researcher in 1982 by my Grandfather, age nearly 90. Father and a son with 2 or 3 sons came through the divide from SC. into TN. and finally settled in Bledsoe Co., TN. ; 2 of the 3 sons names were John and Thomas. >From the childrens names of descendants I believe that the 3rd son was William C. Crawford because all 3 sons of Johnathon Houston Crawford named a son using these 3 names. Timeline for the arrival in Tn. should be about 1800. Anyone with a connection or knowledge about these Crawford`s, your info would be greatly appreciated.SLC

Would like info on sibs of Elizabeth CRAWFORD b. 1685 Surry Co, VA, d/o Robert CRAWFORD & Elizabeth CARTER. PWink42385@aol.com
I'm researching James CRAWFORD, b~1746 possibly in VA. I need help in confirming the following outline that my cousins and I have assembled: (1) We calculated that he was born about 1746. We are guessing in VA and that his father's name was John. (2) We assumed from a sketchy and slightly erroneous biography published in 1881 that he married Elizabeth ENGALD (sp?) in Surry, NC (from tax records) about 1770 (from childrens' 1850 and 1860 census records). (3) We have located tax records in Surry, NC for James CRAWFORD and his possible father in law, Joseph ENGLAND (sometimes INGLAND), in Surry, NC in 1772. (4) We are guessing that he moved to the Watauga Settlement (later Washington Dist) in western NC about 1777 to be with his brothers, Moses and Samuel, who participated in the Cherokee land purchases of Sycamore Shoals along with consortium leader Jacob BROWN in 1775. We are uncertain of this because the Watauga CRAWFORDs (Moses, Samuel, James, Rev War Major and TN legislator John of Knoxville, and youngest brother Isaac) owned property in Buncombe Co, NC in the 1790's before moving to TN by 1800. Nevertheless, Joseph ENGLAND and James CRAWFORD were taxed in Watauga in 1778. If our James was the James mentioned in the biographies of Watauga resident/Rev War Col/TN Gov John SEVIER, then our James probably was born in Augusta Co, VA. (5) The first undisputable record of our James appears in the 1785 GA land grant series to out of state residents which we haven't yet viewed. The land was granted in Washington Co, GA in Mar 1785, then transferred to Franklin Co, GA after that land office was established in Sep 1785. The location of the land was in what became Pendleton Dist, SC in 1788. (6) Court records appear in 1786 in Franklin Co, GA for James CRAWFORD. (7) The full family appears in the 1790 census of Pendleton Dist, SC. (8) James and Betsy had the following children: John (b1770) Salley (NUNN) (b1772) Moses (b1772) Elizabeth (THRASHER) (b1776) Joseph (b1778) Vineyard (b1780) Jesse (b1784) Colby (b1786) Casander (CLARK) (b1788) Rachel (ASHMORE) (b1790) Mary (BROCK) (b1793) Samuel (b1796) and Russell J (b1798). Details of this family's history after 1790 along with supporting references can be found at my website. Briefly, in 1803 James moved across the Tugaloo River to Franklin, GA, then to Lincoln Co, TN about 1808, then James was granted land in 1810 in Madison Co, MS Territory which became Limestone Co, AL in 1818. James and Betsy died about 1825. James children lived in GA, TN, AL, TX, and AR. One son migrated to IN and some of those grandchildren to IA and MN. I am specifically looking for evidence supporting our guesses of this family history before 1785. Any descendents of 1790-1850 Knox Co, TN CRAWFORDs could provide substantial help. Also, descendents of Isaac CRAWFORD of 1820 Lincoln Co, TN could provide help. Dr. Kevan Crawford http://pages.prodigy.com/crawford.kevan/
