Three brothers, William, Samuel and James Crawford,Jr came from Orange Co.,NC and settled in Lawrence Co.,IN in the early 1800's. They were the sons of James,Sr and Margaret Frazier Crawford. I am a descendant of William and Jane Morrow Crawford, but I have quite a bit of information about all of the brothers. Samuel Crawford married Elizabeth Pickard 04 Dec 1819 in Orange Co.,NC and I have record of 8 children. James Crawford,Jr married Mary Woody 10 Oct 1801 in NC and there are 11 recorded children. All but one of their children, son William, left Indiana during the 1840's and settled in Iowa and Missouri. William and Jane Morrow Crawford were married 02 Oct 1910 in Orange Co.,NC and were the parents of ten children. I'll be happy to share information with anyone who might connect - Janet

A Jane CRAWFORD married Charles GRINNELL abt 1807 in Bainbridge, Chenango, NY. He had married first Sally STOWELL, daughter of Hezekiah STOWELL and Hepzibah Persis RICE. Jane CRAWFORD GRINNELL died in Wellsboro, Tioga Co. PA in 1862. Was she living with Crawford or Stowell relatives? There appear to be several CRAWFORDs in Tioga Co. PA. including a Henry, Joseph and Samuel. Are they related to the NY CRAWFORDs and STOWELLs? A number of siblings of my relative Persis CRAWFORD appear to have disappeared from Chenango Co. NY about 1820-30 and I have not been able to locate them (made more difficult without knowing the given names of several of them). I hope to prove whether or not Jane CRAWFORD is the daughter of Persis STOWELL and JOHN CRAWFORD (my ggg grandparents); also trying to determine the origin of John CRAWFORD who might have come from Guilford, VT area with the STOWELLS to Bainbridge, Chenango NY in 1786. John CRAWFORD married Persis STOWELL either right before or soon after the Hezekiah STOWELL family left Guilford, VT and settled in the Clinton/Bainbridge/Afton (Chenango Co.), New York area in 1786. I am hoping to learn whether or not John Crawford (born about 1760-1765) come from Vermont and who were his family. Hezekiah Stowell (father of Persis Stowell), a "Yorker" received a land grant in that area of Chenango Co. NY along with other Yorkers who were involved in the land struggle between Vermont and New York. To settle the controversy they were granted land in NYS. Does anyone have CRAWFORD ancestors in Vermont about 1750-1790? Does anyone have CRAWFORD ancestors in Chenango or Broome Co. NY from about 1790-1860? John and Persis STOWELL CRAWFORD had a large family of children (born between 1796-1804 approx), most whose names have not been identified. Known children were Joseph, Rebecca, Persis and possibly Andrew and Jane who grew to be adults. Rebecca probably married an Amos Wilmot, but I cannot determine where they lived (both died after 1865). Abigail and John who died in their 20's are buried in Afton, NY. A Levi CRAWFORD who witnessed a family deed is likely related to the family. A Jane CRAWFORD married a Charles Grinnell who had earlier been married to Persis Stowell's sister Sally. Persis STOWELL CRAWFORD died 1839, at which time most of the CRAWFORDs appear have disappeared from the Chenango NY area. Does anyone have any idea what happened to Harvey and Eleanor"Nellie"Moore Crawford after the 1850 census of Estill Co KY? They are not on the 1860 KY census index. Harvey was born in TN/VA in 1806,married in Clay Co KY in 1834,went to Montgomery Co KY then to Estill Co for several years. The children were Sanders,James,John,Sarah and Elizabeth.

My g, g, g grandfather was WILLIAM CRAWFORD, b. 1777, married to SARAH FORAKER. Their descendants ended up in Pettis County, MO, after 1895. I found that looking for a William Crawford is just as bad as John Smith! I do have more names and dates, but does anyone have any suggestions where to start looking?
